What is a decent allowance for a Khmer girlfriend?

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

Thank you so much for your concern for her well being.

On the advice of many members, she changed classes and her new teacher was the former editor of the Phnom Penh Post? and then she thrived again.

In western countries, there is a shortage of protective equipment for their health care workers. What protective equipment do you think the doctors and nurses have in Cambodia? Especially in the local public hospitals? The peanuts you make teaching is far greater than what they pay for nurses in the Kingdom of Wonder. Yet you are advocating they should be paid less than you, go into greater harm than you, without anything to protect themselves from the virus, for what? The nobility of duty of getting sick themselves for the benefit of some Barang’s opinion? So she can spread the virus to her family and me and my parents as well? Lots of doctors and nurses have stopped working during this time of virus.

Many nurses who graduated with missus never went to work in the hospitals. The hours are poor, the pay is bad, and they are terribly abused by the system.

Am I selfish and protective of her? Guilty as charged. Other members of this board proudly consider their better halves as easily replaceable. My Missus is not.

Sorry to everyone for the long, off topic, rant.
Getting sick themselves for the benefit of some Barang’s opinion? Where the hell does that come from? The pay structure of the workers of Cambodia has nothing to do with barangs, Its governed by the leaders / officials of your wife's country. You can see why the pay structure is such, being in the league of schooled, trained qualified competent professionals, carers mainly for their own people, more so at this time, when her country needs her and any trained staff in the medical departments.

Welcome to the real world - NHS nurses have complained of the same over the years.
Quote - Lots of doctors and nurses have stopped working during this time of virus. The time when needed most by their country, doctors I am always doubtful of the qualifications if any. Nurses you say they graduated (I would question of what kind of degree in comparison to the western equivalent. But again you answer the questions about the pay scale, its low because they are not worth more. There is a crisis and the trained professionals who the whole Kingdom and its visitors rely on, have stopped working during this time of virus. No wonder people are scared.
I learnt yesterday that another member of my family is working for the wellbeing of patients that are infected with the virus. My daughter in law is taking care of two elderly people in the UK at a care home she works. She is a carer not a nurse, and on minimum wage because she is not qualified. But never the less she cares.

You're in the USA, she's very unlikely to infect you.

There's a shortage of nurses. She is needed.

Other nurses, including wives and mothers and older nurses are working everywhere.

Its not just nurses. Supermarket workers are seiing hundred of customers a day with no protection, many workers are not able to maintain distance from other staff at work, a particular problem in take out restaurants. No disrespect to medicla professionals but there are many other people risking their lives keeping their countries going. I believ 4 bus drivers in London have died, no idea about taxi drivers who have become essentil for the elderly to do their shopping, so it would be nice for people tothank the other key workers as well. When this is all over and we count the dead itwill not justbe Doctors and nurses. there will be hosital cleaners, pharmacists and a whole range of others who will have giventheir lives, willingly or not, to keep the rest of us safe

Woman: Soooo. You’re a fireman in NYC. Interesting. What did you do when 9/11 happened?

Man: I stayed home. Because my rich girlfriend in Cambodia was worried about me.

It's like someone volunteering to join the army, going through basic training, getting orders to report to Afghanistan and responding "But there's a war there, I don't want to fight in one of THOSE. I'm going home for awhile, call me when the shooting stops."

This has to be some type of joke, right? A trained nurse walks off the job because she might get sick. Youre paying her WAY too much mate.

When I had a girlfriend I covered her rent, food, English tuition and beauty therapy lessons. I gave her $200 allowance a month for her family stuff etc.
That was a fun time :)
