It's been on a fairly even upward trend since October so could plausibly go higher, but if you're holding GBP now is far from the worst time to change your holiday money.
Yeah, that's good news considering it dropped to $1.15 in March last year. Only problem now is the 'holiday' part!

Covid optimism lifts business confidence in UK to five-year high

I can't help thinking this survey is complete bollox. You be the judge.

Business confidence has jumped to its highest level in five years as firms look ahead to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions easing and a bounce in sales during 2021, according to a leading barometer of corporate activity.

Are they seriously suggesting that business' are now more confirdent than they were At Christmas 2019? And 2018, 2017 etc.

Why? do they think this Covid-19 business will be done and dusted by late summer?

The business confidence index, compiled by the ICAEW accountancy body from a survey of 1,000 firms, showed confidence for the year ahead rising from -19 in the fourth quarter of 2020 to +10 in the first quarter of 2021.

Given it is still week 7 of the first quarter, that's a ballsy call.

Quite why The Guardian publishes such a bogus story is odd, given they spend most of their time trying induce people to suicide with their constant negativity.

However, this final paragraph put into perspective just what +10 points actually means.

The ICAEW barometer is based on a survey that asks respondents to rank their level of confidence between +100 to show much more confidence and -100 to show much less. A score of zero indicates that the outlook is the same as the previous quarter.

Johnny Briggs Dies

You just have to be a Brit to know who this guy was.

Stage and screen actor best known for playing Mike Baldwin in ITV’s Coronation Street

The actor Johnny Briggs, who has died aged 85, was cast as the flash cockney Mike Baldwin in Coronation Street in 1976 to boost audience figures for the northern soap opera in the south of England. He ended up staying for 30 years.

Mike arrived with experience in the rag trade, opened a factory, Baldwin’s Casuals, where he was a tough boss with no time for unions – and went to bed with Bet Lynch, the Rovers Return barmaid.

Alarm over delays in border measures as Brazil Covid variant hits UK
Up to three cases of highly transmissible variant have been found in England and a further three in Scotland
The government is facing urgent calls for tougher border measures after UK officials said they were searching for one of six people infected with the highly transmissible Brazilian coronavirus variant.

Public Health England said on Sunday that three cases of the variant had been detected in England and three in Scotland, but that the identity of one of those carrying the virus was unknown as they had not provided their contact details.

The P1 variant, also known as the B1128 variant, shares some of the same mutations as the highly transmissible South African variant and was first identified in Manaus, Brazil, in January. It is thought that it could respond less well to current vaccines.

Yep, the pound is good at the moment, slightly down from it's 1.42 high a week ago. It might be stuck at 1.40 for a while, but it's had a great run in the last 3 months.
