One of Our Katie's favourite shticks is "I NEVer apologise, it is a sign of a weak character"
It cost her the family home. The litigant had offered to settle for 5G and and an apology - she couldn't do it. It cost her half a mill. Stirling.

You are obviously not cut from the same cloth at all, Doc
Apology accepted, unconditionally.
It's the sign of the highest character, and manhood, in my book.

(but i am storing it away if i ever want to embarrass you for being so wrong about us Lefties  )
Hmmm Stern, you are remarkably well informed about Ms Hopkins. You know far more about her than me (admittedly not a high bar) and from the other side of the world too. Anything you care to admit to? A little crush, perhaps shattered by her political views? I think we should be told in the interest of full disclosure... :D

Sarah Palin, Pauline Hanson, Kayleigh McEnany, Priti Patel...

ask them...
Amazing what a bit of reckless and wild Leftie shtick does to an uptight neurotic Right-thinking woman in a power suit.

Did I say crush? This is a full blown fetish.

I'll be keeping this on file too, in case you bring up my Katie Hopkins post in the future. Mutually assured embarrassment. :D

"Mutually assured..."

Read your history Doc - that leads to peace breaking out.
You're not turning into one of those Guardian type snowflake pseudo Lefties i hope?

C'mon Comrade, if you're going to sign up - we reckon you should be with us Greenie/Antifa hardcore realist street fightin' faction.
You can still be Chairman - and yeah, keep that sour Alf scowl too.

You can't get me rising to the bait, I'm feeling very centrist today. And I do like the Guardian because it's free, for me, and funded by all those socialists who subscribe voluntarily. For once they are paying and I'm getting the free ride!

UK News, Updates and Discussion

Interesting. The ONS in the UK has released figures that give a better idea of the death rate actually due to coronavirus...
“Last year saw the largest increase in UK deaths in a single year since 1940, according to provisional ONS figures
In 2020, nearly 697,000 deaths were registered, compared with an average of nearly 606,000 each year between 2015 and 2019”
So with 3.1 million cases of coronavirus infection, and 90,000 extra deaths compared to usual annual figures, that makes the death rate actually due to coronavirus about 3% of infected cases. Probably less as a huge amount more cases weren’t identified.

Brexit bites
Remember those flights coming in from Asia where Asians brought all kind of weird foodstuff with them which was confiscated by Customs upon arrival ? The Brits now face the same music when arriving in the EU:

Is this what you have been fighting for for the last few years ?

That 3% of deaths is not 100% caused by Covid-19. This is the critical issue. Of those 90,000 additional deaths, many of those were very old and with many things already wrong with them. Covid-19 added to their list of medical conditions and pushed them over the edge, perhaps a year a year of so early. If the death rate for 2021 is significantly less than 606,000 this year we'll know this for sure. However, we will have to look very carefully for significant rises in other causes of death caused by the UK effectively having no health service for cancer treatments while the hospitals are overwhelmed by Covid patients.

Once all the over 60's have been vaccinated and the mortality rate vanishes, those statistics will have to be looked at very carefully. However, the saying, 'lies, damn lies and statistics' will be apparent as the government will do all in it's power to justify all it's actions and handling of the crisis which has been shambolic and very very expensive.

As for the unidentified cases, the governments primary chart that shows infections is so obviously wrong in the early months as without testing the vast majority of those infected went unidentified. The true number is far higher, maybe double the current number. Only anti-body testing would prove that but once the vaccine programme is completed we will never know.

It’s not the number of deaths that’s the issue. If every person that has the virus simply died in 24 hrs., then the NHS wouldn’t be overwhelmed.

Many get very sick and require the highest level care very fast. And require that highest level for a long time. After a long hospital course, most survive, a few die. The UK has a much higher percentage of the population that are older and have multiple co-morbidities than compared to Cambodia.

This pattern of disease ties up all hospital resources, causing a breakdown in the health care system. This is way the rate is so important. And hence the measures to try and reduce that rate.

One poster complained about the number of NHS infected, contagious nurses staying home and not working. What’s the solution? Force them to continue to work and spread the virus to the entire hospital?

Thank goodness the vaccinations have started. Pray for everyone in the UK and hope things return to normal soon.

UK coronavirus deaths pass 100,000 after 1,564 reported in one day

It just gets worse. Good job they cancelled Christmas!

More than 100,000 people have died from coronavirus in the UK since the disease first appeared in the country almost a year ago, in what public health experts said is a sign of “phenomenal failure of policy and practice”.

On Wednesday the daily figure for recorded deaths was 1,564 – a new record high bringing the total to 101,160, according to analysis of figures from government and statistical agencies. The toll far exceeds some of the worst-case scenario estimates made during the first wave of the pandemic.

It comes amid warnings that the toughest weeks of the crisis are yet to come and that Britons are facing an epidemic of grief for lost relatives and loved-ones, with many forced to mourn alone amid lockdown measures and curbs on funerals.
