Here we go...
The UK has become the first western country to license a vaccine against Covid, opening the way for mass immunisation with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to begin in those most at risk.
The vaccine has been authorised for emergency use by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA), ahead of decisions by the US and Europe. The MHRA was given power to approve the vaccine by the government under special regulations before 1 January, when it will become fully responsible for medicines authorisation in the UK after Brexit.
The first doses of the vaccine will arrive in the coming days, said the company. The UK has bought 40m doses of the vaccine, which has been shown to have 95% efficacy in its final trials.

Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson arrested in fraud investigation
This story should have some legs, bribery and witness intimidation - sounds like something from The Sweeney.
I bet he's been shielding, the fat bastard.

Labour mayor among five detained as part of police inquiry into building contracts in city
The mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, has been arrested as part of a fraud investigation and suspended from the Labour party.
Anderson, who has led Liverpool for a decade, was one of five men arrested across Merseyside on Friday in an investigation into building and development contracts in the city. He is being interviewed by police on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation.
The others arrested are: a 72-year-old man from Aigburth, on suspicion of witness intimidation; a 33-year-old man from West Derby, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation; a 46-year-old man from Ainsdale, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation; and a 25-year-old man from Ormskirk, on suspicion of witness intimidation.
The mayor has spent most of 2020 shielding at home due to underlying health conditions.
I bet he's been shielding, the fat bastard.

The Essex Boys: How Nine Traders Hit a Gusher With Negative Oil
This is a great story. Remember when the oil price went negative back in April? When buying oil meant someone was paying you to take it off their hands? This is the story of a group of traders operating from their houses in Essex, made collectively hundreds of millions in one day, April 20th 2020. (and in the process a bunch of Chinese rich guys lost their shirts on the same day).

Over the course of a few hours on April 20, a guy called Cuddles and eight of his pals from the freewheeling world of London’s commodities markets rode oil’s crash to a $660 million profit.

Excellent reporting! We sunk their fleet in 1940 when they surrendered to Germany and we didn't want them to fall into German hands. I think they got sunk in port, so hardly a stunning naval victory. I don't think the French have quite forgiven us for it still.DaveG wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 12:59 pmThe comments section on the daily mail are top class, they talk about launching Trident missiles against the French fishing boats, , no wonder uk is in such a mess, what they going to do, Nuke a French scallop boat, ROFLDoc67 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 10:24 amGood old fashioned gunboat diplomacy.DaveG wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 10:52 pm Just when you thought it couldn't get any more ridiculous, Gunboats, ffs

It's ridiculous, the streets and shops are rammed but the pubs, with all their spacing and other measures, are being closed down - again.DaveG wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 8:40 pm Absolutely baffling as to why covid cases are still rising in London

London and most of the remaining home counties that were under Tier 2 and now under Tier 3 restrictions as from 00:00 Wednesday 16th.
Yet they are still hanging on to their 5 day Christmas period free-for-all. I can see that changing soon.

I think even though govt would love to go back on the 5 day opening, and everyone thinks it’s a bad idea, it will stay.Doc67 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 8:13 amIt's ridiculous, the streets and shops are rammed but the pubs, with all their spacing and other measures, are being closed down - again.DaveG wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 8:40 pm Absolutely baffling as to why covid cases are still rising in London
