I have to agree about the fake smiles. I have spent plenty of time there, my Lao wife has cousins in Nakhom Patom, and we traveled around quite a bit...up to Chang Rai, down to Hua Hin. Wife would always tell me what the Thais were saying behind the smiles and it was never pleasant.

Yes, the Thais are some of the most racist people I have ever met.

They will smile and wai and do what ever needs to be done while there is still money in your wallet, but once the last baht is gone, you will see their true colours.

I could go on about the non-stop cheating and lying which seems to go on even amongst my wife's family, but will save that for another time.
