OK, LOL - Cultural Relativity

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

The late anthropologist Clifford Geertz defined culture as:

“a system of inherited conceptions expressed in symbolic forms by means of which men communicate, perpetuate, and develop their knowledge about and attitudes toward life.”

Let's keep it simple -

"The ideas, beliefs. customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society"

The problem is that that isn't very simple though isn't it? "Culture" is an umbrella term relating to a broad spectrum of behaviour.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Page 2 of this thread and we're still trying to parse together just what the hell SternAAlbifrons is on about.

I think it is of some comfort to know that across all cultures....worldwide......SternAAlbifrons would be considered an obtuse bloviator of the first order. :thumb:

FFS, Suddenly everybody is an academic. i just want a good blood and guts argument on the front pages - longstanding friendships wrecked, threats of personal violence, multiple banning orders - that kind of "discussion". lol

Looking at some topics recently the word "culture" and the concept of relativity have been thrown around like Frisbees.
I guess most people just want black and white, right or wrong, huh Bromide? (ps, that <<< is the definition of a bloviator)

try this
Cambodian culture is so primitive..
and ours is so superior - even our eating habits

I just was looking for a discussion on this concept Brody. That's all.
I am not trying to engage everybody, but there are a few here that like an occasional serious minded discussion.

ps why do you always just play the man, and never make your case, when you are looking for a fight with me?
not interested.

Stop trying to be cleverer than you are. It's annoying.

You kicked off this thread in an idiotic way:

"OK, LOL - Cultural Relativity"

"This should be fun"

Try creating a coherent thread and whilst your at it....state your own case in its first post.

Then we wouldn't end up in a muddled shit-show......also, lay off the Sherry. :thumb:
