Phnom Penh: Three cars stopped in front of a shop at Boeung Kak lake, then an unidentified man got out of one of the vehicles with a weapon, walked inside, and fired off ten shots. The woman who was apparently the gunman's target escaped without injury, but she fainted dead away from the shock and had to be revived by her friends.

The incident occurred at 10 pm on March 29, 2020, along the concrete road R6, located in Srah Chak commune, Daun Penh district, Phnom Penh. Police who went to the scene recovered six cartridges, and are actively searching for the gunman.

The shooter has been identified as a drunk police officer from the Phnom Penh Anti-Drug squad.

Police officer questioned for discharging weapon

Phnom Penh Municipal Court today questioned a municipal anti-drug police officer accused of going on a shooting spree in Daun Penh district.

Major Keo Piseth, the Police Officer working with the Municipal General Crimes Department in Phnom Penh, identified the suspect as Lieutenant Colonel Kong Sopheap, 42, the Deputy Chief of Municipal Anti-Drug Police Department in Phnom Penh. He was arrested on Monday.

Maj. Piseth noted at about 10.30 pm on Sunday, 7 policemen, who wore civilian clothes, working with the Municipal Anti-Drug Police Department, drove two cars to stop at a villager’s house located in the railway road in Daun Penh district’s Srah Chak commune. There were about ten people [ villagers] who were sitting and drinking beers in front of the house.

Maj. Piseth said Lt. Col. Sopheap, who became drank, walked towards the crowded villagers, withdrew a pistol from his waist and fired about ten shots in the airs to frighten them. His action caused a 35-year-old-woman to become unconsciousness due to the fear.

“Col Sopheap, who was drunk, suspected the crowd of people were drug users and were using drugs at that time,” he told Khmer Times.
“After the shooting spree, he realised they were not drug users. Lt. Col. Sopheap and his fellow officers fled by car,” he added.
Local police forces arrived at the scene after they left.

On guns, just musing..
In Cambodia the Chinese crims use cheap copies.
The hunters use illegal home-mades.
But so many of worst of the shots are fired by those in genuine uniforms packing the real deal.
just an observation

Why do you think the polcie have the real deal? i think you will find many of them are using old police 38's and the horribe chinese pistols that look like toys and are wildy inaccurate.
I have seen one polce officer with a colt 45 and one with a glock, but most of them are equipped by thechinese so don't espect any exotic hardware, just sutplus chinese junk except forthe bodyguard unit

The Bodyguard Unit's standard issue rifles are Norinco QBZ-97 and CQ, made in China. Many high ranking officers have pistols like Glocks/ Berettas etc, they are seriously expensive here though, like $3000.

Which guns are the easiest to fire in the air when you are drunk and also ricochet the most ? :rambo:

I think a lot of these officers should be issued with water pistols to protect the general public, and also their nearest and dearest...
