Corona Virus Weird News

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

Corona Virus Weird News

Post by Anchor Moy »

So much stuff out there on the coronavirus, but here's another thread, just for all the weird and mainly useless information on how the coronavirus is affecting some people's lives.
The drug dealer
Some people are panic-buying cocaine

I sell cannabis and cocaine to suppliers in the north of England. I have around 20 guys on the street, with approximately 200 regular customers. We have two main concerns now: sourcing drugs and getting enough money. We expect no more cocaine shipments from abroad for the next six weeks, so prices have shot up. I’m maintaining the same prices I’ve always charged but I’m concerned that, when stock begins to run low, people higher up the chain will charge more or cut the cocaine and decrease its quality. People are panicking – the amounts of cannabis they’re buying is ridiculous – so we are just dealing to regulars now. I’ve told my workers to be strict with what they sell and who to, but they aren’t changing their behaviour much, other than offering to post through letterboxes and accept bank transfers from trusted customers. People running out of money is a big concern, but we’ll always have the regular cokeheads who buy most days.

I’ve been doing this for 12 years and don’t have any dependants – other than sometimes helping my parents out with bits of cash – so I’m not financially worried. My biggest concern is handling money. I’ve been wearing gloves. DH

Speak softly to beat the coronavirus and avoid loud-mouths.
This video from Japanese news outlet NHK says that talking loudly can spread the virus. Not sure how true this is, but if people around you start to speak in whispers, you will know why.

A great start in life for two twins called COVID and CORONA.

Indian Couple Names Newborn Twins COVID and CORONA

03/04/20 21:30
NEW DELHI, April 3 (RT) - Coronavirus fever has taken a strange turn in India, with a couple naming their newborn twins Corona and Covid – reportedly to remind them about the hard times they are enduring amid the epidemic.

As India is under a nationwide lockdown aimed at stopping the spread of coronavirus, a couple from the Indian city of Raipur found unusual inspiration from the situation.

They decided to name their boy Covid and their girl Corona.

Homebound Vietnamese rummage online for condoms
By Dat Nguyen April 8, 2020 | 09:33 am GMT+7
Online searches for condoms rose 56 percent in March as people stayed at home, fearful of the coronavirus pandemic.

The rise was recorded on iPrice, a website aggregator of online products for customers to compare prices, which suggested it was because of limited traveling in the country.

At least 20 UK phone masts vandalised over false 5G coronavirus claims
Industry body assures people in open letter there is no link between 5G and pandemic
Jim Waterson and Alex Hern
Last modified on Mon 6 Apr 2020 20.55 BST

At least 20 mobile phone masts across the UK are believed to have been torched or otherwise vandalised since Thursday, according to government and industry sources who are increasingly concerned about the impact of baseless theories linking coronavirus to 5G networks.

There have been noticeable clusters of attacks on masts around Liverpool and the West Midlands. Owing to the slow rollout of 5G in the UK, many of the masts that have been vandalised did not contain the technology and the attacks merely damaged 3G and 4G equipment.

There is hope that the rate of attacks may now be slowing. Network operators are particularly concerned about the safety of their staff, as members of the public have confronted telecoms engineers maintaining critical infrastructure, sometimes filming the encounters to share on social media. Mobile operators and home broadband providers estimate there have been at least 30 such incidents in the last week.

Sex toy sales triple during New Zealand's coronavirus lockdown
Speculation rife about an impending baby boom, but experts say uncertain times mean this is unlikely
Charlotte Graham-McLay in Wellington
Thu 9 Apr 2020 01.30 BST

They were warned by the officials against stockpiling toilet paper or flour. But that’s not all New Zealanders have been hoarding, according to the nation’s largest retailer of sex toys, which said sales of its products tripled after Jacinda Ardern announced a month-long lockdown of the country.

New Zealanders are permitted to leave their homes only to access essential services or take walks during the national shutdown, which began a fortnight ago and will remain in place for at least a further two weeks.

The measures generated mirth on social media about a possible baby boom nine months after the stay-at-home rules lifted, and worried family planning specialists as access to various forms of birth control dwindled.

The restrictions also prompted a tripling of sex toy sales in the 48 hours before the lockdown was imposed on 25 March, and the prospect of a boring month indoors seemed to have prompted New Zealanders to stash adult products that they might not have tried before, said Adult Toy Megastore, a New Zealand-based company.

“We’re selling a lot of beginner toys ... all our beginner ranges are very popular,” said Emily Writes, a spokesperson for the business. “It definitely looks like people are saying: ‘I’ve got time, I might try something new.’”

British soldiers to get insect repellant as Covid-19 protection
MoD placing order despite WHO guidance that product would not work
Kevin Rawlinson

Last modified on Sat 25 Apr 2020 00.00 BST
British armed forces are to be given insect repellant to protect them against Covid-19 infection, it has emerged.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed on Friday that it plans to buy stocks of a product containing a lemon eucalyptus oil extract called citriodiol. But questions remain over its effectiveness, with British officials refusing to reveal any evidence it would work.

After the news emerged, Public Health England confirmed the government’s guidance does not include using any such substance to protect against Covid-19 infection.

Similarly, the World Health Organization said there was no evidence the virus can be transmitted by mosquitoes and that an insect repellant would therefore be ineffective. The use of citriodiol to prevent infection does not form part of its advice.
