Australian activewear retailer Lorna Jane to face court over claims leggings could stop spread of Covid-19

Australian activewear retailer Lorna Jane and its founder will face court over a range of leggings and sports tops it claimed could protect its wearer from spreading the highly contagious Covid-19 virus.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said on Monday it had instituted proceedings against the popular brand in the Federal Court, alleging the claims were false and misleading and in breach of consumer law.

Australian activewear retailer Lorna Jane and its founder Lorna Jane Clarkson will face court over a range of leggings and sports tops it claimed could protect its wearer from spreading Covid-19.

Lorna Jane released its “Anti-virus Activewear” range in July, saying it was sprayed with a substance called 'LJ Shield' which provided protection against viruses and pathogens, such as Covid-19.

The brand promoted the range with slogans such as "Cure for the Spread of Covid-19? Lorna Jane Thinks So", and claimed that by wearing the clothing customers were "completely eliminating the possibility of spreading any deadly viruses".

The ACCC alleges the claims were untrue and says Lorna Jane had done no testing to back them up. It alleges company founder Lorna Jane Clarkson was knowingly involved in the alleged conduct via claims she made in a media release and Instagram video promoting the range.

The weird stuff Houstonians craved most during quarantine
Usually an annoying but fairly simple task, grocery shopping may have changed forever amid the COVID-19 pandemic — and purchases reflect that.

Analyzing purchase trends and consumer survey data, Instacart’s New Year, New Cart report uncovered key shifts in "shopping behavior, buying preferences, and food attitudes" after nearly a year of pandemic living. For starters, 47 percent of Americans say they still like to cook most, if not all of their meals, from home.

Instead of the usual brisket and beer combo, the grocery delivery service found that Houstonians opted for anchovies, chickpeas and oat milk when grocery shopping, as reported by Chantal Rice for Culture Map Houston. Anchovies sales increased by 58 percent in Houston, chickpea purchases went up by 36 percent and oat milk sales increased by 300 percent.

“The events of 2020 have forever changed how Americans shop for groceries and household goods,” wrote Laurentia Romaniuk, Instacart’s Trends Expert and Senior Product Manager. “After months of binge baking, drinking more and indulging in quarantine comfort foods, our findings show that the pendulum is swinging the other way as online consumers set their sights on a new year full of bolder flavors, lower-alcohol cocktails and resolution-friendly Keto snacks. We’re also witnessing an increase in brand mindfulness, as the cultural shifts of 2020 make their way into consumer purchasing decisions in the grocery aisles.”

UT, it's just nuts here. Went to my local ASDA yesterday, just to pick up our veg and meat for Christmas/New Year. No toilet paper, no kitchen towel, no sanitizer, no wet wipes, among other things. Pastas all gone. (I wasn't getting any of this, I just noticed all the empty shelves where these products should have been!) The British are a supremely stupid bunch. We'll never survive a zombie apocalypse, we will be too busy hoarding fucking toilet paper!!! :please:

Florida women wear 'granny' disguise to try to get Covid vaccine
Two women aged 34 and 44 rumbled while wearing bonnets and gloves to vaccination centre
Kevin Rawlinson
Fri 19 Feb 2021 10.10 GMT
Two Florida women aged 34 and 44 dressed up as “grannies” – wearing bonnets and gloves – in a failed attempt to pass as old enough to be eligible for coronavirus jabs, according to local media reports.

WFTV, an ABC-affiliated TV station in Orlando, reported that the pair had valid vaccine cards after having their first shots, but were denied their second ones.

It quoted the Orange County health officer Dr Raul Pino as saying: “I don’t know how they escaped [detection] for the first time, but they came with the gloves, the glasses, the whole thing, and they are probably in their 20s.”

Their real ages emerged later, a WFTV reporter said. According to the station, the two women were turned over to police. Officers said they were asked to issue trespass warnings and no other action was taken.
Orange County Health Officer Dr. Raul Pino told us they've increased security at the @OCCC vaccination site over this and others who've tried different approaches to get the shot. He says the two girls had valid cards from their first shots, but got held up over their IDs. @WFTV

The good news to be gleaned from this: two women, 34 and 44 years old, were mistaken for being in their 20's, even though they tried their best to look like old ladies.

I can almost guarantee they'll be clipping that article and saving it for years, just for that one comment.

LOL, Gum leaves!!
You obviously didn't read my little piece in Tracks surfing mag many years ago about which Australian coastal vegetation offers the best in strength, scented aroma and pampering comfort.

My recommendation is not actually leaves at all, and most certainly not ANY kind of eucalyptus.
Melaleuca quinquenervia. Coastal Paperbark
- pure bliss.

Gwyneth Paltrow's Covid advice challenged by NHS England director
Hollywood actor urged to stop spreading misinformation after promoting ‘intuitive fasting’
Matthew Weaver
Wed 24 Feb 2021 18.51 GMT

Gwyneth Paltrow has been urged to stop spreading misinformation by the medical director of NHS England after she suggested long Covid could be treated with “intuitive fasting” , herbal cocktails and regular visits to an “infrared sauna”.

The Hollywood star, who markets unproven new age potions on her Goop website, wrote on her latest blogpost that she caught Covid-19 early and had since suffered “long-tail fatigue and brain fog”.
