Sofitel Employees Steal $14,000 Worth of Jewelry from Guest

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: 2 Sofitel Hotel employees have been arrested for stealing jewelry from a customer worth $14,000.

The man was using the spa and sauna and put his jewelry in a locker. When he went to retrieve his items they were gone.

They are still deciding whether to send them to court or not.

Who the fuck wears $14,000 worth of jewellery, AND is stupid enough to store it in a locker in a spa. Was Slick Rick at the Sofitel?

Plenty of rich people here wear silly amounts of jewelry. However, they are usually surrounded by bodyguards. It's common for military types to wear big bling rings. I'd guess that whoever it was let the security slip a bit because they thought it was safe in the Sofitel.

One local I chatted to at the time reckoned her neck chain alone was worth $15,000. I have no idea whether that is true or not, but I have no reason to doubt it.

They are both poor people in that photo, cannot afford to go to a hair dresser.

l know someone who had some money taken out of his wallet there just last week. He reported it to the management and investigations were reportedly carried out but no evidence was found and nothing more happened. But he's 95% sure it happened there as he counted and sorted his money in BROWN just before going to the gym and he noticed it had gone when he went to pay for some furniture at the rattan places just outside.

It is really commom for Cambodians in majority to wear big golden chain, ring and bracelet in the occasional time such as wedding. i.e my mom and my grandma, they always wore big chain to join the wedding. i always told them not wear as i concerned about thier safety, but they never listened to me. lol
However only people in the countryside prefers wearing gold, while phnom penh residents prefer wearing diamond with white platinum.

My friend can now ask for some compensation as it is obvious the same thief stole the money from his wallet. (Plus there is no warning against leaving things in the locker like most gyms)
