Coronavirus update as of today

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

update on Italy march 23rd:

The number of positive tested people is still rising but the peak seems to be reached after 2 weeks of lockdown. 2 consecutive days with less infections than the day before.Kind of news we all have been waiting for. We all hope that this trend continues, It clearly shows that any nation must adopt severe measures to contain the spreading. If they dont they may pay an ever higher price than Italy. Dont forget we are still talking 600 dead only today.

Image

Whats still worrying is the high mortality rate compared to other countries (actual figures show over 6000 dead with 64K tested positive makes over 9%)

Image

I have made comments on this unusual high mortality rate on other posts. The latest and most prevailing argument is the fact that Italy probably has by far more people carrying the virus than actually positive confirmed ones. Well thats trivial, but how many more??. If we apply the usual 2% mortality rate it would mean that Italy alone has 300'000 people with Corona. But at this stage its just a guess but if not we need to be prepared for many more dead to follow.

I cannot see how Italy is going to control it if they cannot control the the people arriving by boats and those that have already arrived and are moving around in the community with no fixed place of residence.

Germany seems to be doing something right, 24k cases and 92 death with 2 serious/critical. I wonder if they have been doing mass testing so have a more accurate figure.

Also, with 5-6000 of active case in the UK I can't see the figure of 20 as serious/critical can be accurate.

Unlike in Italy, there is currently no widespread postmortem testing for the novel coronavirus in Germany. The RKI says those who were not tested for Covid-19 in their lifetime but are suspected to have been infected with the virus “can” be tested after death, but in Germany’s decentralised health system this is not yet a routine practice.
This could have something to do with it.

Also in the article says they expect the overall mortality rates to be similar to Italy in the long run.

South Africa has announced a national lockdown for the next 21 days.

The program shows a different problem that exists in Italy (and not only in Italy, the italian mafia is everywhere). I dont think that Corona spread here has anything to do with Nigerians selling sex and drugs.

Your right, but it will have a lot to do with controlling the movement of people and the spread of the virus.

No movements anywhere here in Italy for the moment, hefty fines and/or prison for that no matter what colour of skin. We are not known to be a country who strictly follows the rule of law, always bending to the max. But not in this case. No insane men would have sex with any street pros at the mo. When it comes to drugs we have found a temporary solution.
