Cambodia Bans Entries from Italy, Germany, Spain, France, and US

Post by chiaojiang »

AKP Phnom Penh, March 14, 2020 --

Foreigners from five countries have been banned from entering Cambodia, a move to prevent possible spread of the deadly COVID-19.

In an announcement of the Ministry of Health dated Mar. 14, foreigners from Italy, Germany, Spain, France, and United States are not allowed to enter Cambodia for 30 days.

The ban will come into force from Mar. 17, stated the announcement, signed by H.E. Mam Bunheng, Minister of Health.

The ban was imposed due to the growing COVID-19 infection cases in those foreign countries.

There are currently seven confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection in Cambodia - a Cambodian man, a Chinese tourist, three British tourists, a Canadian man and a Belgian man. The Chinese man has been successfully cured and returned to his home countries.

According to Dr. Ly Sovann, a Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, the six infected foreigners are imported cases, while the Cambodian case was in direct contact with a Japanese infected man.

Is it a passport ban or travel history ban?

Is any passport holder affected or only those that have been in the affected countries?

Does the ban also affect for example a Chinese coming from Italy or not?

^^ Yep, even if you haven't been back to Europe for years, you are on the contagious ban list. The list is about your passport nationality and not about the countries that you have visited recently. Makes sense. %)

Well, that's what Chinese passport holders have had to face globally as well: Signalled as possibly contagiousand non-desirable because of their nationality. We can look forward to more of this as the epidemic spreads to other countries.

if you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.
