a question for connoisseurs

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

it's portable, you would only put this on a roof if you were welding or cutting there.

the guy does nice work from what I could tell. Cambodians are very crafty.

edit: maybe too big for being portable.
Still here, in country...

You peaked my interest.

These have the amusing habit of exploding which isn't exactly shocking when you consider that there is a guy sitting about 5 ft away with a naked flame, usually with his eyes closed if he doesn't have a piece of smoked glass, whilst all these flammable gases are pouring our of this thing.

For that reason they are usually on the roof or outside.
Never seen one on a roof.

And I've worked in/on/around areas where many of my techs would be cutting all day long, never had explosions either.

Little things called pressure regulators and spark/flashback arresters with active redundancy happily stops such things from happening.

That said there's always risk for a few sad accidents, so stay safe as possible!

Correct! Only recovering from it now. I'm OK, but laptop, roof, chimney, all need replacement now.

I believe these are used to make the gas used in kid's balloons. It's explosive, years ago I was near a woman who was dancing on a table in Bangkok and one went off, she had melted rubber all over her arm, I set one off myself recently and the explosion fucked up my hand for a while. Don't buy them for your kids!

I think you would find the gas in the kids balloons is more likely to be hydrogen gas,,,, lighter than air,,,, whereas acetylene gas is a very heavy gas.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
