so will you have to register and scan your passport every time you stay in a hotel?
I always have to do that anyway, at the classy places I stay at.

Maybe they don't allow you in to those places. (Uh, oh, I hope admin does not edit this insensitive comment out.)

I had just read this! Is this the same thing here?

Clarification over foreign employee’s registration responsibilities

The Immigration Department has sort to clarify that it is the responsibility of the host (landlords/hotel owners) not of the foreign resident/tourist. Foreigners will not face any fine if they are not registered, but will not receive their visa extension until the landlord/hotelier has input the foreigner’s details in the system.

According to the ministry, in order for a foreigner to be able to extend their visas from July 1st, 2020, and avoid penalties for failing to comply with the Directive, all residential owners/landlords are required to register any foreigners staying in their properties through the FPCS mobile or web application.

I downloaded the app that is plainly for landlord or innkeeper and showed it to my new landlord.
I had my Khmer wife explain the July 1st...deadline and I needed to renew my extension in August.
I will keep reminding until I receive confirmation and their account number...It seems I must have this number with my passport at the travel agency.
Should not be a problem.
My landlord in Kampot did the same thing manually with a paper copy of my passport and visa...as every hotel I have ever stayed at was supposed to do over the years.
Remember when you had to bring fucking passport pics with you when you flew in from Bangkok?
That went away with the new cameras and the fingerprint scanners they have now.
This is the same upgrade...

BR549 that's why I put the above post, somehow westerners (expats) have taken it on themselves to do this on their own smartphones, so what is correct before the Kingdom of Wonder gets more wonder?
