at least it will be quiet for 2 weeks there

PM HE: Wedding ceremony in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are not allowed for 15 days to prevent the spread of #COVID19. And grade 12 classes for the national exams also postponed.

Any meeting & gathering more than 20 participants also are not allowed in these two municipality & province.

All foreign and Cambodian passengers arriving in the Kingdom are no longer allowed to conduct self-quarantine at home.
He said in the past for any airplane which carried COVID-19 infected passengers, those who flew with them were allowed to have quarantine at their home for 14 days.

“But now they are no longer allowed to do so. Whether they are infected with COVID-19 on the plane or not, it is absolutely necessary for them to conduct a 14-day quarantine at the state-run centres. So we must be even more careful,” Bun Heng said.

Health Minister Mam Bun Heng said all foreign and Cambodian passengers arriving in the Kingdom are no longer allowed to conduct self-quarantine at home.
He said all passengers are to conduct a 14-day quarantine at the ministry’s designated centres.

Bun Heng spoke to reporters before leaving for Myanmar to give medical supplies against COVID-19 to the country.
Let's see how many days he'll be in quarantine when he comes back from Myanmar.

True anyone?
I heard that as well. But that was in regard to public schools not the plethora of private schools.
I fear there won't be a plethora of private schools for much longer if this carries on. Private schools are struggling to keep students with the amount of online classes they're having to do.

Most Khmers simply see no value in online learning. Computers and phones are for YouTube, Facebook and playing games. Not lessons.

Cambodia’s COVID-19 community spread cases increases to eight as of Sunday night, bringing total cases to 317

Another two females were tested positive for COVID-19 in the capital Sunday. Both are spouses of Ministry of Interior officials who had been exposed to the Director General of the Prisons Department.

According to information obtained from the Ministry of Health, one of the two is a housewife and is married to an official of the Information Bureau of the Ministry of the Interior, while the other, a bank employee, is the wife of the Deputy Director of the Directorate General of Prisons.

This brings the total number of community spread cases to eight while tests have been carried out on more than 3,000 people from Aeon 1, Ministry of Interior, Prisons, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, AIS, a private school in Takhmau and other venues.

Ministry sources said the husbands of both women had tested negative in the first tests but were quarantined to await up to three further tests.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng, who is also Ministry of Interior, Justice Minister Koeut Rith, Environment Minister Say Sam Al and several Interior Ministry Secretaries of State all returned negative results for COVID-19 in the first of several tests.

For information, CEO News Edit Update: Regarding the following news item published by the Khmer Times, CEO News is not able to corroborate the affirmation that the woman concerned had recently arrived from the US, or that she has been overseas recently.

At this date, CEO News has been unable to find reliable confirmation to support the Khmer Times version of events. If this information is officially confirmed or denied, we will update accordingly.

According to this article, the wife of the General Department of Prisons director-general did not obey the quarantine rules after returning to Cambodia from the US. If this is the case, then it is possible that the woman may have come in contact with the virus before arriving in Cambodia, but the authorities are still investigating. [This information is still unconfirmed.]
The call by ministry spokeswoman Or Vandine comes after a Cambodian woman had reportedly flouted quarantine, transmitted the virus to her family and visited multiple places, sparking a massive contract tracing exercise in which more than 3,000 people have been tested.

It was reported that “the wife of the General Department of Prisons director-general had just returned from the United States, and she wandered around without following quarantine measures in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s guidelines”.

“I plead with all of you, please do not think of blaming any people,” Vandine said.

The wife of Lieutenant General Chhem Savuth, the Ministry of Interior’s director-general of the General Department of Prisons, who tested positive for COVID-19, entered Aeon 1 Mall in Tonle Bassac commune, Chamkar Mon district, Phnom Penh at 5.30pm on November 21, and walked around for an hour and a half.

When she arrived at Aeon 1, she went up to the first floor and ate Japanese food. After eating for almost an hour, she went out to buy clothes and toys for her grandchildren and then went to the bathroom before going home.

The mall has now been closed and authorities are trying to trace those who may have come into contact with her.

Vandine said people who entered Aeon 1 Mall that morning or before November 21 are not at risk.

The general talk of locals outside the borey is that of concern and also worry of the virus spread. But alas even with this threat nearby, no one, or very few adorn a facemask.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

I don't completely blame individuals (some are responsible, some blatantly not)
but this shitty system that allows, even encourages, some people to operate above the law
and get away with it

i think we know where the buck stops in today's cambodia

Cambodia Reports Eight New Locally Transmitted COVID-19 Cases
Phoung Vantha 30/11/2020 11:36 AM

The first case of community transmission since April 2020 has been recorded in Cambodia and already 14 people have tested positive in relation to the Nov. 28 outbreak, prompting schools, museums and cinemas to close as more samples are being analyzed by the Ministry of Health.

PHNOM PENH--The Ministry of Health announced on Monday (Nov. 30) that eight new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in connection to the wife of Chhem Savuth—director of the General Department of Prisons.

Savuth’s wife, 56, appears to have contracted the virus without having left the country recently, prompting fears that the source of her infection remains unknown. She then set about traveling around Phnom Penh and Siem Reap Province, despite having developed COVID-19 symptoms. She sought testing at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh three days after she displayed symptoms.

Venues she had visited, including Aeon Mall 1 and the Phnom Penh Hotel, have closed temporarily following this latest outbreak of community transmission.

Prime Minister HE has requested that this outbreak be referred to as the “Nov. 28 community event,” which saw six family members of Savuth contract the virus.

The Health Ministry said that eight more people in Phnom Penh have now tested positive as of Nov. 30, including a 36-year-old woman, the wife of a deputy-director of the General Department of Prisons. She resides in Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh.

Similarly, a 24-year-old woman married to an official within the Ministry of the Interior’s Information Department has also tested positive in Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh.

The other six new cases were found in Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh and include a 45-year-old woman whose nephew was infected on Nov. 28, a 30-year-old woman married to a driver who caught the virus on Nov. 28, two men and a woman who all came into direct contact with a COVID-19 patient from the Nov. 28 community outbreak and a 7-year-old boy whose aunt was involved in the Nov. 28 event.

All 14 people who have been identified so far as having caught the virus from the Nov. 28 outbreak have been hospitalized and are receiving treatment at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital.
