Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

COVID-19: Two Recovered Cases; New Imported Case Reported
AKP Phnom Penh, November 17, 2020 --

Two patients have recovered from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), according to a press release of the Ministry of Health issued this morning.

The two new cured cases are H.E. Suos Yara, 47, a Lawmaker coming in contact with the Nov. 3 Incident, and a 31-year-old Cambodian woman living in Kratie province who arrived in Cambodia on Oct. 19 from Japan via South Korea, it pointed out.

They have been allowed to be discharged from the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh after being tested negative twice consecutively, the press release added.

Meanwhile, it continued, a new imported case of COVID-19 was detected on a Cambodian-American man, 56, coming from the U.S. via China (Taiwan). He arrived in Phnom Penh on Nov. 15 and was tested positive for the deadly virus. He has been admitted to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital.

The other 164 passengers on the same flight with negative test results have been put under 14-day quarantine, it said.

CEO News replies: This is standard practice in most of the Cambodian press, ie Taiwan is referred to as China(Taiwan), therefore it is not surprizing that a Taiwanese man was identified as a Chinese national in the news item below(where the Taiwanese man was understandably upset because he was described as a drunk Chinese): newsworthy/drunk-chinese-driver-hits-ca ... 41644.html
CEO has apologized to the Taiwanese person concerned, who tried to do the right thing after the accident.

Cannot say Taiwanese. By King’s decree.

I ran into this getting permission to marry.

Had to say I am an American born in China.

Was forced to declare Chinese.

Are both ur parents Chinese and were ur parents naturalized Americans?
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

As from today it doesn't matter, everyone is doing the full 14 days if you are a general foreigner.

I bet those passengers were thinking they made it just in time before the implementation of the mandatory 14 day monitored quarantine, wouldn't be surprised if some of them had even changed their tickets to arrive before the 18th

We are all from Taiwan. All naturalized, of course. Parents were worried (and still worried) about the forceful liberation of Taiwan by the PRC. Previously it would be nuclear barrage. Now conventional invasion.

Official Cambodian documents are not allowed to list Taiwanese or Taiwan (country).

Just another thing that makes the Kingdom of Wonder so unique. And frustrating to get married in. But so worth it.
