Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Actor Hang Achchariya was a talented male actor, model and writer. RIP
Respectfully yours, Im Chiva

I first met Hang Achariya at the "Kampot Writer's festival" around 5 years ago... We hit it off and had a long conversation throughout the day into evening... I kept in touch with him off and on, meeting for dinner once on a trip to Phnom Penh.

Last year, during the lockdown, when acting became impossible, he worked tirelessly to finish a massive novel. During this sleepless writing phase, I remember teasing him about "no drinking" and to focus on writing instead... Then, he published the novel this year. The title I cannot translate, although it has the word "snake" in it.

Two months ago, Hang posted about receiving his 3rd Coronavirus booster. The further irony is, this young man was physically fit and worked out in the gym regularly. So, Covid can get anybody -- no matter how strong.

Hang Achariya was highly intelligent, and not shy to speak his mind. This is indeed a sad loss of a natural and multi-talented individual... He was a fighter and would have continued creating no matter what. How unfortunate a loss for Cambodian culture...

Rest with the blessed, my dear bright Hang!

Why oh why do the good die young?

Thanks for sharing that, oricha.

Just a question for anybody. Who, or is there a program set by any organization to have the many street kids we may come across begging on riverside, also around the many markets and Wats. Who would be looking after their health and interests, are they getting vaccinations, anyone know?

Roz if you're reading maybe a good cause for your charity.

You have a very good point there Richard, it is a fact that the officials need the people's paperwork before doing anything, and you mentioned the ID card, they were going about the process of updating people's cards, the new ones have a chip in them now so obviously they can be read, and if I am not mistaken, people need the new one for voting.
But now you bring up the point of the card, is it reality that the vaccination number is actually a true number.

A birth certificate is also allowed and nearly all people have one because there have been large campaigns in the past to provide everyone with one free of charge.

Street kids are probably fucked, and so are all people residing in Cambodia illegally, but that's an issue everywhere in the world. People without the legal paperwork generally won't show up at government run parties all around the world.
