Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Above it mentions the data source, well I would not have thought that it would be the world health organisation in China collecting data.

So, China have administered 143 doses per 100 citizens?

That means they must of produced 2 Billion doses, plus what they have given/sold abroad, which is more than 60 countries buying them by the 10's of Million's. That's some serious vaccine production facilities they have set up and ramped up, all in less than a year (roughly when all these vaccines were nearing their development stage and testing began).

India, with it's very respectable vaccine production capabilities and plenty of money and incentive, have just 48 per 100.

Are we sure China didn't have most of these already made? Or are they just a superior race?

I don’t think there’s any need to bring either conspiracy theories or race into it.
China might have more people to vaccinate but they’ve also got more people to dedicate to the production chain, along with the political will to get it working.
Contrast with eg the UK who ran out of those giant bags and basically had to just wait for a private company to decide to make more.
Vaccine manufacture is an extremely highly specialised thing to do, so obviously bigger countries are going to have a better chance at getting it done.

Regarding India specifically I suspect they probably exported a bigger share since they’ve been manufacturing Western vaccines under license. Even a lot of vaccines given in the UK were made in India.

They can build two hospitals with 2600 beds in less than two weeks.

Hospitals? Those are more like storage sheds for covid patients :hattip:

Regardless, the speed to get those done in 2 weeks is mind boggling

There is nothing massive, or even "startling" about these rises. Previous week's Delta update figures, with this weeks rises in red.

Delta Update:

Nationally 999....1752....2674

Phnom Penh 70....532....914

These rises are in fact a slowing down of the spread of the Delta variant in Phnom Penh, from a 7 fold increase to less than a doubling. And if you believe that...

It is interesting that Khmer Times hasn't bothered to translate the number and make it clear where the cases are, as they have done in the previous 2 weeks.

Any data on deaths due to the Delta variant available?
Lot's of focus on infection rate, as usual, but how many are dying?

I am not sure they are even counting, but I have not seen any reference to Delta deaths.

So the question arises.
They are tracking the Delta variant but not recording deaths?
or
They are tracking the Delta variant and recording the deaths but hiding the actual figure
or
They are tracking the Delta variant and counting the deaths as just COVID deaths
or
?? other scenario ??
