Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Matthew Robinson wrote: Thu May 13, 2021 1:35 pm It's reported today that 80% of the populations of 'Red Zones' have been vaccinated. Has anyone any idea with which chemical concoctions they've been 'jabbed'? And does anyone know, if vaccinations are mandated for all denizens of 'Orange Zones' - and lastly 'Yellow Zones' (a huge undertaking) - if those to be jabbed will get a choice of the stuff they're to be jabbed with?
The red zoners would have received Sinovac (aka Coronavac) or Sinopharm. AZ was used primarily in a countrywide programme to vaccinate the over 60s.
The Chinese ones both use traditional vaccine technology compared to the western ones, Moderna and Pfeizer are especially new technique.
The policy is to prioritise the red zones, and then roll out the coverage to the rest of PP and then to the whole country.
The Covid vaccine thread contains references to the safety and efficacy of the various vaccines. The Chinese ones look like they are nearly as effective as the others but only after two shots have been given.
No choice AFAIK.

You sound like you disapprove. It's the only route back to normality I think. 70% vaccination coverage pretty much gives herd immunity. Logically, people who are suspicious of Covid vaccines should be happier with the Chinese ones because they use the traditional methodology. The Western vaccines have been approved for emergency use only. The Chinese ones have not been approved in the West but the WHO just approved Sinovac (emergency use only). Sinopharm and the Russian Sputnik V have yet to be approved by WHO.

FTFY,

We can’t expect herd immunity with Sinovac, even with 100% of the population vaccinated.
The vaccin is effective to keep most of us out of intensive care and significantly reduce the death-toll.

Serrana town is 98% Sinovac vaccinated, it would be great to keep an eye on their May and June numbers.

Five cases does not sound like a major concern, but there are presumably more undetected cases in the local community, the health facilities in Kratie are extremely basic and limited, and it is 4-5 hours by road if ever emergency cases might need to be sent to Phnom Penh by ambulance. Because of these reasons, a major coronavirus outbreak in this area could be difficult to manage, which may arise if there is an influx of locals returning to their home villages from the urban centers.
Stueng Treng, Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri are blessed with their great health care services and their proximity to Phnom Penh.

So, you get to choose between the chocolate teapot or the inflatable dart board.
But, guess its better than nothing as long as it diminishes symptoms and is a tick in the box for air travel. Yet to be seen that the little blue vaccine card is accepted overseas as proof of vaccination? Anyone tried that yet?
You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body.

Well they have both been approved by WHO so I'd presume ok for travel, and hey thumbs up we aren't being charged for them either. Even the china ones could save your life in the short term, don't know about few years down the track though
