Back to work. Vaccinations for factory workers ? Yes, but not immediately.

May 8, 2021
Factories should not yet require vaccinations for workers
Sen David / Khmer Times

Prime Minister HE has instructed factory and enterprise owners not to require their staff to be vaccinated in order for them to return to work.

Mr HE said in an audio message to the public this morning, that recently many workers have rushed to ask for a letter from their village chief to get vaccinated in order to return to work.

He said workers say they will not be able to go to work without being vaccinated, as their workplace has said it is necessary.

He also instructed the Ministry of Labour to review this.
He said that that such conditions are not yet applicable because Cambodia is in the process of vaccinating the population and vaccinations are still limited.

“Factory owners, do not intimidate workers over vaccine problems. Now is not the time to use the vaccine as an equity and as a condition for employment, wait for Phnom Penh and Kandal province or wait for the whole country to be vaccinated,” he said.

On 7 April he said

The prime minister released an audio message on his official Facebook page warning civil servants that they risked termination if they did not get vaccinated for COVID-19, adding that failure to get the vaccine would make them a potential infection risk.

“I would like to stress that those who intend to evade getting vaccinated are at risk of being terminated from their work; be it the armed forces, national and sub-national civil servants, or contract workers,” he said in the audio message.

Now its ok if not vaccinated????/

Elites mingle either with or are themselves civil servants or in the military. It makes perfect sense for those classes to get vaccinations first. Stopping the virus infecting elites is a priority.

I doubt many elites have breakfast, lunch, or dinner with factory workers everyday.

Makes perfect sense through the looking glass.

Yes, another contradiction, but tbf, HE said one month ago that workers should get vaccinated to go back to work, but the Covid spread and vaccination availabiity has changed somewhat since then. (More virus spread, and less vaccines than hoped for.)
People need to get back to work or there will be a big social crisis. Not defending the HE back-peddling, but since the govt can't pay everyone, then they need to let them earn money to support their families.

So you get tested for covid if you travel to Siem Reap

Five passengers who took a taxi together on a road trip from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville and onwards to Siem Reap, were detected positive in Siem Reap.
Siem Reap provincial authorities announced that the five new cases of Covid-19 were detected on May 9, after tests were performed when the five entered the province.
Provincial authorities said while the lifting of inter-province travel was welcome as a move to boost tourism in the province, it has also resulted in some imported cases from other provinces being detected positive in Siem Reap.
Siem Reap authorities carry out tests on all road trip travelers at the Kampong Thom – Siem Reap border before allowing entry into the province.

Can I assume you're joking? UN 2018 figures indicate a 'normal' (pre-Covid) death rate of 6 per 1,000 of total population. That extrapolates to around 100,000 'normal' deaths per year, or around 275 per day. 120 'Covid deaths' since 20 February is an average of less than 3 per day, minuscule compared with everyday deaths from all causes. Little need to get worried, I suggest, if you weren't joking.

Meanwhile, following the Gov't recent removal of quarantine requirements on internal air travel (i.e. PP to SV, PP to SR and vice versa) does anyone have any info/thoughts on the likelihood of the removal of the 14-day quarantine requirements on all in-bound air passengers from the RoW in the near future?
