Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

But this shows the 'lockdown' of Phnom Penh is far from airtight.
BUT, it does show that the local authorities in Ratanakiri are on the ball to check out any new arrivals in the province. Ratanakiri and Stung Treng are supposedly the only provinces in Cambodia with no Covid contamination so far (AFAIK).
Actually it shows only that they caught those people. There could be 100s more they do not find

Ok this doesn't bode well. His store has now been specifically taped off.
That means a positive result. My building had a positive and they took her away in an ambulance, sprayed all the insides and taped the front entrance door. Two days later the Sangkat allowed it to reopen. I don't know why but I was very grateful.

Yeah I know (not sure if denial or not wanting to jump to conclusions). I can't (and don't want to) go past the single tape across 15, but his wife was still there yesterday. Possibly awaiting another test result for her. There were police and an ambulance across the corner from me a bit after 9pm as well. So I guess that's at least two more cases in this Sangkat in today's figures. My beer guy is a really nice guy, so I hope he'll be ok.

Has anyone noticed many business' opening up in the yellow zones?

I drove down street 19 for 154 and 240 and it is still virtually all shuttered. Is this the economic reality beginning to show?
"Everybody back to work.... Where is everybody?"

I am in dire need of a haircut and my regular shop on 154 is on the wrong side of the street. The ones that were on street 19 (near 154) have not re-opened. Very little seems to have done.

From yesterday's reported cases: One case in Phsar Chas (my beer guy), none in Phsar Kandal 1&2, two in Phsar Thmey 2 and a bunch (maybe 10, didn't count) in Phsar Thmey 1. I'd imagine the latter could go orange on that number. Large majority of the rest were in the big outbreak areas like Porsenchey and Meanchey.

Is there a government tally somewhere of the % of the population which has been inoculated? Must be around 5-10% by now. They've received around 4M doses, correct? I think the only thing that can stop this now is mass inoculation, which wouldn't necessarily reduce transmissions, but the rate of hospitalization would be drastically small.

China donates traditional medicine to Cambodia for treating COVID-19 patients
By Xinhua News Agency

China has donated 88,000 boxes of traditional medicine Lianhua Qingwen Capsules to Cambodia to help treat COVID-19 patients in the Southeast Asian nation.

Lianhua Qingwen Capsules, a patented traditional Chinese medicine widely used in China to treat symptoms of COVID-19 patients, was on Tuesday licensed by Cambodia’s Ministry of Health for use.

Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian handed over the medicine to Cambodia’s Health Minister Mam Bunheng on Thursday at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Health in Phnom Penh.

The medicine was donated by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia through the Chinese embassy.

Speaking to reporters at the event, Bunheng expressed his profound thanks to China, saying that the medicine would help Cambodia fight against COVID-19.

“We’re very happy to receive this traditional Chinese medicine,” he said. “China’s assistance including medical experts, medical equipment and supplies, a COVID-19 lab, and vaccines is essential for Cambodia to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19 and to take care of our people’s health.”
