Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

My thoughts exactly.
And his cause of death would be Covid. Wouldn't that be a grand irony.

Phnom Penh’s Olympic market closed due to COVID

April 21, 2021

#National

Authorities have appealed to traders, security, staff, workers in the market and their families, as well as people who visited the market from April 8 to 14th to immediately report to the Chenla Theater

Is that how long the tests take to get processed?

And why not just say, since 8th. as if you went after the 14th the virus had gone again, then why bother to close now :BangHead:
Because that wouldn't perpetuate further constriction of the food supply and fiscal contraction of the private sector.

From my visit to Phsa Deum Thkov and friend's visit to Phsa PC, seems the street crammed with stalls both sides/market hall respectively are closed but vendors are allowed to operate "al fresco" on the streets immediately around as are shopfronts. However police have roped off that area and only allowing people in one at a time to avoid any crowding. Actually seems to be working quite well!

On April 21, 2021, there are 446 new positive cases of COVID-19 and 130 recovered.

Phnom Penh (331) Preah Sihanouk (82) Central (21) Takeo (5) Kampong Speu (2) Svay Reang (1) Banteay Meanchey (1) Bathombong (1) Prey Veng (1)

I think yesterday's figure might not have included Kandal Market's positive test numbers, so I'm not surprised it's up a bit today.

PLUS: 5 more deaths
The latest deceased patients are all Cambodians aged 54 to 83, bringing the toll to 59.

As of April 22, Cambodia had recorded a total of 8,193 Covid-19 cases with 5,204 receiving ongoing treatment

Does anyone know if a predominant strain has been identified in Cambodia?

Sure - it is the Kent variant that is responsible for this Feb 20 incident.

“Coupled with its ability to spread rapidly, this makes B117 a threat that should be taken seriously,” he said.

Analysing death rates among people infected with the new variant, researchers found it led to 227 deaths in a sample of 54,906 patients – compared with 141 among the same number of closely matched patients who had the variant circulating earlier in the pandemic.

Would you be so kind sharing the info stating it was the Kent variant?

Thx
