Some Schools in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province Temporarily Shut Down
AKP Phnom Penh, February 22, 2021 --

Some public and private schools in Phnom Penh capital and Kandal province have been closed down temporarily.

The class suspension was announced by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports yesterday, adding that online teaching and learning will replace the in-class ones during the suspension period.

The move is aimed to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in educational institutions and the community, it underlined.

The school closure came after the recent outbreak of community transmission so-called Feb. 20 Community Event, added the source.

The closed public and private schools include Russey Chroy Lower Secondary School and HE Russey Chroy Primary School in Saang district, and Russey Srock Lower Secondary School in Kean Svay district of Kandal province; Kolab I Primary School and American Intercon School (AIS) (Chak Ang-re campus) in Phnom Penh.

Earlier, the ministry also announced to temporarily shut down HE Phnom Penh Thmey High School and SIS International School (Lucky Star campus) until further notice while the education staff, teachers, students and other people related to the two schools are required to do the COVID-19 tests.

UPDATE
Over 10,000 Locations Registered for QR Code “Stop COVID”
AKP Phnom Penh, February 22, 2021 --

As of this morning, at 11:30, a total of 10,366 public and private institutions, restaurants, hotels, factories and so on have registered to implement QR Code “Stop COVID” introduced on Feb. 20 following the 3rd community outbreak dubbed Feb. 20 Community Event.

The update was shared by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC) on its official Facebook page this afternoon, adding that at the same time, the public have scanned the QR Code 107,696 times.

The introduction of QR Code “Stop COVID”, another measure to contain and prevent the spread of the pandemic, is aimed to record the movements of customers, visitors and staff at those locations, explained the Ministry of Health in a recent press release.

The system does not track the privacy of each individual, but make it easier for the health authorities to locate people involved if any positive cases of COVID-19 are found in those locations, it underlined.

QR Code “Stop COVID” can be downloaded at https: //stopcovid.gov.kh, the source said, continuing that after getting the code, the institutions can print and paste it on their entry-exit, so the public can scan it with their smartphones when they check-in and check-out.

masks required in public including riding in tuks- police will enforce
no weddings
no gatherings more than 8 people
school closures yet to be determined
there is a concern that some ( foreign ) infected people attended cock fights and exposed the general (Khmer) community in crowded conditions

This was slipped into an article which could be significant. This strain is much more infectious and is now the dominant strain in the UK. If this spreads here, we will be on the black list of travel everywhere.

The article does not make this point expressly clear, but simple maths means that at least one of the three UK variants detected must be a community transmission. There were 23 community positives and 2 imported ones.

The new infections detected include UK variant (SARS-Cov-2 UK Variant 20l/501Y.V1 and B.1.1.7.

^^ Confirmed below. (The other source is not always reliable, and a double-check is good practice.)

COVID-19: 25 New Infections Detected, including UK Variant Cases
AKP Phnom Penh, February 23, 2021 --

Twenty-five (25) new positive cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in Cambodia this morning, of which 3 are of UK variant (SARS-Cov-2 UK Variant 20l/501Y.V1, B.1.1.7), pointed out a press release of the Ministry of Health.

According to the source, 23 of the new cases are connected to the Feb. 20 Community Event, and the rest two are passengers from abroad.

The 23 locally transmitted cases include 20 Chinese, 2 Cambodian, and 1 Vietnamese nationals aged between 20 and 44 years old.

The two passengers are Cambodian peacekeepers coming from their mission in Africa and arriving in Cambodia on Feb. 21. They have been admitted to the Training Centre for Multinational Peacekeeping Forces in Kampong Speu province.

The other 117 passengers on the same flight with negative test results have been put under 14-day quarantine at the same training school.

And double-double check, with another confirmation of the presence of the new Covid 19 variant on Fresh News:

Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 23 – Cambodia's Ministry of Health warned Tuesday that the new COVID19 variant is vicious and spreads faster than the previous variants.

Cambodia reported three cases of COVID19 new variant on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health’s press release dated 23 February 2021.
