Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Thailand’s cabinet has agreed to extend a state of emergency until the end of November, Reuters reports citing a government spokesman said.

The move maintains a security measure put in place in late March to contain its coronavirus outbreak.

Thailand has confirmed only 3,759 coronavirus infections, with most recent cases imported. There have been 59 deaths.

It recently received a group of foreign visitors for the first time since a ban on commercial fights was imposed in April.

Today it reported 13 new cases, all from people flying into the country.

will it work?

Special Tourist Vias, 14 day quarantine, “plans”, “models” and endless red-tape. Now we’ve got the “smartband” to track foreigners when they visit Thailand. The so-called Smartband will have to be worn by any foreign travellers entering Thailand. The new wearable restriction for travellers to Thailand coincides with the Cabinet announcement this week to allow more foreign tourists and crew of yachts to enter Thailand under the Special Tourist Visa program.

“The wristband can track their locations and measure the body’s temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate. It can also help the wearers with various problems, such as asking for directions when they get lost.”

The Smartband is being introduced from today. It’s the brainchild of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, in cooperation with Thai startups, according to the announcement on PR Thai Government.
Details, as usual, are sketchy and there is no clarification where the smartband is given to the tourists, if it’s compulsory to wear or who pays for it. Nothing explains how the Smartband can help when the wearer is “asking for directions”. Or is it waterproof? On the government’s own PR Facebook page the reception was less than enthusiastic

Another cunning plan by the competent authorities 🤔,
Let see, tested before departure , tested on arrival,14 days quarantine, tested again still negative, and tracked by GPS mongering up and down Soi 6, I think I'll give it a miss thanks,
PS these smart watches wouldn't be made in China by any chance🤔🤔

More than likely they also are able to record audio, take photos and video. PRC China has mastered the art of surveillance. Why wouldn’t these Chinese made watches do so? Maybe an unadvertised feature?

I’ll be putting my tin foil hat back on, now.

Migrants can extend Thailand travel docs
Cambodian migrant workers stranded in Thailand can now extend their travel documents after the country declared it will continue to close the borders for November to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the Cambodian embassy in Bangkok announced.

Tola said there are at least two million Cambodian workers – both legal and illegal – working in Thailand. He said over 100,000 people have returned to Cambodia since the onset of the pandemic.
