Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

FYI:
Foreign visitors may be able to enjoy visa-free trips to Thailand for up to 45 days until the end of the year.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has proposed keeping the initiative in place for the whole of 2023.

The original plan was to return to the previous maximum of 30 days after March 31.

If you enter on a standard tourist visa, can that be converted into a long-stay visa or do you need to enter on a different visa, like Cambodia's Ordinary / Tourist visa distinction?

You can apply for a non-immigrant visa at your local immigration office, no matter if you entered visa exempt or with an actual tourist visa.

The passport will be a UK one (not me).

So, enter on a visa exempt and find an agent in Pattaya. Is that the best route?

more good news

"Mae Sai-Tachileik checkpoint" is now open. After closing the COVID-19 period for 3 years, tourists or Thai people cross to Tachileik. COVID-19 vaccine test results or ATK test results are required.
the Thai-Myanmar border crossing of Mae Sai reopened. It appears to be the first "proper" land border reopening that should allow foreigners and Thais to pass, without being restricted to the border town or a border run (for certain foreign nationalities). However, it is noted that Covid restrictions apply on the Myanmar side and will apply for at least one month before they are re-evaluated. Everyone, Thais and foreigners will need either proof of vaccination or a Covid rapid antigen test done within 48 hours and this proof must be printed out. No electronic copies accepted. Another rapid antigen test will be performed on arrival in Tachilek at a cost of 15000 Myanmar Kyat. Only one day pass holders are exempted from the on arrival test. It is not known whether foreigners, who request a one day pass will be exempted or if this only applies to Thais holding border

Yes, just tell them to visit the agent early on, because they'll need some time left on the permission to stay in order to do the conversion. Usually 2-3 weeks, I don't know about Pattaya specifically.

Just tried flying from BKK back to PNH. Mile -long lines everywhere. Took over 2 hours to get through security and immigration. Missed my flight. No apologies or refunds from anyone. They couldn't have cared less. Last time I ever go through that airport again for any reason.
