Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

I don't think many of the Malaysians are flying into anywhere. They are doing short land-crossing trips.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Malaysia and Brunei director Nongyao Jirundorn told The New Straits Times
that a majority of Malaysians visited Songkhla province, where the popular towns of Haadyai and Dannok were located.
"Other popular destinations were Sungai Golok in Narathiwat and Betong in the Yala provinces.

There are long queues at the border immigration checkpoints for visitors travelling by road.

Betong has a lovely new airport with bugger all flights. Nok Air has recently reinstated its flight to DMK but it only runs a DeHaviland Dash 3x a week.

If you listen to FCO you wouldn't set foot in the area.

The FCDO advise against all but essential travel to Thailand’s southernmost provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, and to southern Songkhla province. There are regular attacks in these areas. On 5 November 2019, an attack against a security checkpoint in Yala province resulted in 15 deaths. Methods of attack can include arson, bombings and shootings. Targets have included civilians and members of the security forces, government offices, tourist hotels, discos, bars, shops, marketplaces, supermarkets, schools, transport infrastructure and trains. Over 7,700 people, including civilians, have been killed and several thousand more injured since 2004.

Martial law has been in place in nearly all areas within these provinces since 2006. The security authorities can detain suspects without charge, censor the media, conduct searches and seize documents.
