Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
I get the theory but when I went they still checked everything at BKK, so the Thailand Pass was just one more thing to check. No other country that I'm aware of uses something like TP so it should not be necessary. The whole process was fairly quick but that was only because there were so few arrivals.Bongmab69 wrote: ↑Sun May 01, 2022 4:17 pm i travelled last august to LOS and this system is not really a waste of time, of course you spend some time, but you do from home, and once you arrive in a thai-airport, everything is quicker to check for them, thats all the princip behind it, can you imagine you arrive with a fully loaded A380 and the airport staff has to check every document, as it was in august ?? They just move the "paperwork" before flying, which is in my eyes a good thing, and avoids people getting denied (and loosing their air-ticket) once arrived at check in, when leaving their country, or, worse, when arriving in LOS.
The other grievance is the Covid insurance requirement. Again, only Thailand does this and even if you get Covid, it probably won't pay out.
Absent the ridiculous Covid insurance, the only thing to check is the vaccine status. That does not take long.

Did you get a refund from your T&G hotel booking? They are normally non-refundable.ressl wrote: ↑Sun May 01, 2022 11:36 am I got mine after 33 hours for the 2nd of May. Had applied for the old one before, so I cancelled my SHA+ package hotel, after I got the new one. No issues with that and due to free of charge (Thailand pass and cancellation) just a bit waste of time. Easy and straight forward, if you have prepared your paperwork (in digital form).

I'm going in September so hopefully all this nonsense will be gone by then.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Mon May 02, 2022 9:35 amI get the theory but when I went they still checked everything at BKK, so the Thailand Pass was just one more thing to check. Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
Meanwhile the USD gets stronger day by day and the THB is bearing the strain quite well. Which may mean the BoT is defending the THB. They have a lot more reserves than in 1997 but reserves can disappear quickly when a central bank tries to defend its currency. Just read this on Twitter from a credible source:
In 1997, the Thai government said it would never devalue THE DAY BEFORE the peg broke. Funny bit of history there as well. The IMF was in daily communication with the Thai govt during the dark days of June 1997. The IMF told Thailand’s leadership to abandon the peg and not to spend all of the reserves fighting the devaluation. The Thai government told the IMF that senior military leaders in the Thai forces ‘Hadn’t gotten their money out yet’ and that’s why they waited until the very end to let it go. The financial sausage making is worse than most think.
All of which may explain the rapid opening up of Thailand to tourists.

Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
If i check the thai-baht against the euro, its eactly the same as 3 years ago, pre-pandemic.
I would think its not euro or bath, buth its the dollar who is getting stronger,
probably because exports from "some" products to Ukraine is "skyrocketting" !! ??

Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
From May 1 Thailand has opened a total of 31 land checkpoints at its borders with neighboring countries. This means that entry rules for walk-in tourists and visitors are now in line with arrivals by air. Some immigration checkpoints at the Laos and Malaysian borders have been operating for several weeks, but they have now been joined by those in Chanthaburi and Sa Kaeo provinces which include the immigration checkpoints at Aranyaprathet/Poipet and Pong Nam Ron near the Cambodian border.
The reopening of land borders means that foreign tourists and expats will be able to visit neighboring countries without purchasing an air ticket. This could make easier obtaining visas abroad or making use of re-entry permits, although it will take several weeks before the immigration entry implications are transparent.

Known as Prum on the Khmer side. A delightfully quiet little crossing, even before Covid.
Took the casino minibus from Chantaburi several times. The worst minibus in all of Thailand.

3x Camb/Thai land borders it appears...
Re: Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info
Yes, I did. Booked the old Indra Regent on Agoda. Cancelation up to 48h in advance for free. Entry Thailand today was completely pain free. At check in, they check if you have a Thailand pass, on arrival they check the Thailand pass prior immigration. Immigration business as usual, getting to Thailand done...armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Mon May 02, 2022 9:38 amDid you get a refund from your T&G hotel booking? Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over
