Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Another new case record at 9,276. Thailand is going to reach the 10,000 plateau well before what a Thai expert, just this week, projected would come next month.

JPMorgan said Thursday that Thailand will rank among the worst countries for their ability to pull out of the pandemic devastation.

Headline: JPMorgan finds five emerging economies among most vulnerable to Delta variant
NEW YORK, July 8 (Reuters) - Economies of the Philippines, Peru, Colombia, South Africa and Thailand are among the most vulnerable to the COVID-19 Delta variant within emerging markets, mostly due to low vaccination rates, a JPMorgan analysis found on Thursday.

The analysis looks at spread of the virus' Delta variant versus the pace of vaccination, which in some countries is not accelerating enough to offset higher rates of transmission.

Even if the Delta variant is shown to result in lower hospitalization and death rates, the report said, pressure on healthcare systems and a higher absolute number of deaths could occur, likely raising pressure on some governments to extend or re-impose mobility restrictions.

A separate note from Oxford Economics showed strong economic activity rebounds in Latin America on the back of gains in mobility.

The JPMorgan analysis said vaccination thresholds for getting mobility back to normal vary by country, so the results are best taken as relative performance from country to country.

"The model estimates suggest that the Philippines, Peru, South Africa, Thailand, and Colombia face the longest journeys back to pre-pandemic levels of mobility, while Singapore, Turkey, India and Brazil have the shortest journeys."

In Latin America, authorities have been less likely to re-impose or lengthen mobility restrictions, the report said.

"While the region has shown surprising resilience in the face of the virus and other headwinds, downside risks to growth could still manifest through the impact of worsening public health on confidence even if the uptrend in mobility remains in place."

still, outside Bangkok, the vaccination are running slow>>>>
>It has become common knowledge that Thailand's national vaccine plan is inadequate, full of loopholes, flip-flopping and even worse, and might not be enough to deal with the fluid threat and devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic effectively. But vaccine mismanagement no longer appears to be the root cause of Thailand's Covid-19 trials and tribulations.

There are three potentially related processes in motion that underpin Thailand's inadequate vaccine rollout. If all three are found to be at work, their profound and explosive implications and consequences will likely lead to an unprecedented political cataclysm.

First, at a minimum, Thailand's vaccine plan has been a policy blunder. After one full year of grappling with virus outbreaks and infections from early 2020, Thailand ended up with just two vaccines, the British-Swedish AstraZeneca and the China-made Sinovac. Myriad criticisms have been levelled at the Prayut Chan-o-cha government's decision to procure AstraZeneca in an exclusive licensing deal with local manufacturer, Siam Bioscience.

FYI around 11,200,000 doses given out..... 4.5 % fully vaccinated
compare to Cambodia....8,142,000 21.2 %

America leads the way with 48.3%

OUT of control:::Another all time high for local infections with + 9,253 new cases.
+72 new deaths in past 24 hours.
Look for lockdown soon in Bangkok ( again)

I used your source too!

If you look at doses administered, India is 1st with 358,000,000 and the US is second with 331,000,000.

However, while that equates to 48% of the population for the US, for India is it only 5%. This is a catastrophe for them.

The Delta variant is outpacing all vaccine drives. The UK has gone from 2000 a day at the beginning of June to 35,000 a day now, and rising fast. And in 2 weeks all restrictions are being lifted. 51% are fully vaccinated, which is very good compared to others, but that's still 49% highly vulnerable.

Thailand and all of SEA have gone for the isolation route and slow vaccine programme (apart from Cambodia) but now the virus is now well established and can't be controlled, they are now just as vulnerable as Europe and the US was last year. The had a good run but that is over now. If their testing was anywhere near as extensive as the West's (and without the consequences of being carted off to a makeshift hospital), their numbers would be far higher.

Thai insurers suspend COVID policy sales due to specious claims

Poor economy pushes policyholders to deliberately get infected for cash payout

BANGKOK -- Insurance claims over popular COVID-19 insurance policies in Thailand have grown tenfold since last year, prompting insurance authorities to launch investigations into possible fraud.

The Office of Insurance Commission, the country's insurance regulator, has warned on its website it is investigating possible insurance fraud after seeing COVID claims soar.

As of end-April 2020, when Thailand began witnessing a third wave of the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 policyholders stood at 13.8 million with total premiums of 5.9 billion baht ($184 million), according to the OIC. COVID-19 claims for the month jumped to 1.7 billion baht from 170 million baht the previous year.

Analysts attributed the rise in COVID-19 claims to the pandemic-battered Thai economy, which has seen people hit so hard that they deliberately risk infection to receive insurance payouts.

With suspicious claims rising, some major non-life insurance companies have stopped selling COVID-19 policies. Bangkok Insurance announced on its website that had stopped selling policies on June 29 while Viriyah Insurance stopped on June 30.

The Thai General Insurance Association -- which comprises all 56 non-life insurance companies in Thailand -- is warning people against deliberately becoming infected with COVID-19 in order to claim compensation because they may face fraud charges.

The warning comes after several viral social media posts showed families celebrating after receiving payouts due to having contracted the virus.

"There is even a young lady selling inhalers on her Facebook page that she says contain the coronavirus," said a senior official at the OIC. "Buyers can use the inhalers to get infected and then claim compensation. That's why we need to issue the warnings. They not only risk catching COVID but also risk breaking the law."

When COVID first struck Thailand last year, several insurance companies started to offer non-life COVID-19 insurance policies. Customers could buy 100,000 baht to 300,000 baht of coverage for only about 500 baht a year.

The insurance companies now find themselves not only covering claims for legitimate people suffering from the virus, but also the economically desperate who purposely catch the deadly disease to collect money.

You might want to check your math. India's population is 1.366 Billion, so 358 Million is about 26%.

5% fully vaccinated otherwise the USA would be at 112%!
