Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

^ Reading just now that the Phuket Mayor confirmed today that bars and entertainment venues would NOT reopen on July 1st when foreign tourists are allowed to return. In addition TAT confirmed they have reduced by 50% their recent estimate for July arrivals citing the extension of mandatory stay in Phuket from 7 to 14 days. I wonder how many more were cancel without the possibility of a sundowner after a hard day on the beach.

bars are closed but every open restaurant will serve you whatever drink you want in a cup, The beach side restaurants in Kamala have many more people drinking than just eating

They will be lucky to see a few thousand arrivals in July and August with less in Sept

Not too keen on that myself as you just never know re the police these days, saw them doing it for someone in my regular place where I relax here after a beach walk and I didn't even ask.

Friend of mine here in Pattaya moved down there permanently this week, spent a couple of months there seeing friends in March-April and bought a condo :D . His place looks excellent with his own private rooftop pool, I think it's in Kamala. Spare room so at some point I'll pay a visit.

Ludicrous. However, I imagine most tourists don't know about Thailand's secretive "ways and means" to have a drink served. But to arrive and not know if you and the wife can have a glass of wine during dinner, this is going to be a big turnoff. But as you know CC, the central government draws the line and Phuket cannot decide on its own to open the beer and wine bottles without Prayut's OK. And now it's 14 days of alcohol-free holidays? I know a couple of guys who did the drinks-free quarantine and were no worse for wear.

That said, quite a few arrivals will be desperate guys with wives, kids and home who will put up with anything to finally get home to Thailand.

Another day, another failure to book a vaccine appointment. Tried 5-6 times during the three-hour window. Not a vaccine, hospital or date to be found. Many guys reporting the same thing on Thaivisa.com this morning and afternoon. This is despite the booking page showing AZ and Sinovac available. Not ready for prime time.

4 days in, huge drop in those vaccinated

National Vaccination Rollout:

DAY 2: 472,128 doses
DAY 3: 336,674 doses
DAY 4: 223,315 doses
TOTAL: 1,448,964

🗓 11th June:
1st Dose: Sinovac 23,879 | AstraZeneca 153,474
2nd Dose: Sinovac 41,932 | AstraZeneca 4,030

Social Security Office’s 45 vaccination sites in Bangkok temporarily closed
The Social Security Office has suspended vaccination services at 45 centres in Bangkok, from today (Friday) until June 27th, after four days in operation, for improvements of services.

Mr. Nanthachai Panyasurarit, an inspector-general of the Social Security Office, said today that, after four days in operation, during which 174,193 people covered by the social security scheme were inoculated, representing 87.09% of the target of 200,000 people, the office has encountered two problems which need to be fixed before inoculations can resume.

He said that the first problem is the hot weather and poor ventilation in most of the vaccination facilities, due to the lack of air conditioning, resulting in several people queuing for jabs failing to get them because their body temperatures were too high. Some facilities do not even have awnings to protect against rain.

The second problem is the conflicting information about people applying for vaccinations and names missing from the list of those applying for inoculation, said Mr. Nanthachai.

Aug 1 opening sought for Samui, Phangan and Tao islands
Surat Thani islands touted as destinations after visitors spend 7 days in Phuket
published : 11 Jun 2021 at 19:14
SURAT THANI: Tourism authorities will propose that fully vaccinated foreigners be allowed to travel to Koh Samui and two neighbouring islands after a seven-day stay on Phuket, starting on Aug 1.

The proposal to gradually open Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao was unveiled by Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn during talks with tourism operators in Surat Thani on Thursday and announced on Friday.

The minister will seek approval from the cabinet and the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to include the three islands as destinations where approved visitors to Phuket can complete their stay-on-island requirement, starting from Aug 1.

Phuket is preparing to receive foreign travellers starting on July 1, on condition that they have to stay on the island for 14 days before they can go anywhere else in Thailand.

An earlier version of the so-called Phuket sandbox envisioned a mandatory stay of just seven days before onward travel could begin, but the severity of the third Covid wave has prompted authorities to tighten the requirement.

Mr Phiphat is proposing that visitors could stay on Phuket for one week and then fly to the islands in Surat Thani to complete the requirement, according to Sakdaporn Rattanasupha, deputy governor of Surat Thani.

Negotiations with Bangkok Airways are needed for flights to take visitors from Phuket to Samui, he added.

Tourism businesses on Koh Samui are pushing for the island and its neighbours to be allowed to follow Phuket as soon as possible to receive foreign tourists. Other tourist destinations in the country are not scheduled to reopen until Oct 1.

^ I realise these bureaucrats/civil servants need to be seen to be doing something to kick start tourism, but I can't help feeling the myriad of what seems like daily proposals of different schemes and changes to existing ones is actually counter productive.

To anyone considering booking a trip it's conveying a message of uncertainty and confusion.
