Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Also, (in addition to PR's post above), the island of Koh Chang is now closed to visitors:

Visitors have been banned from Koh Si Chang island and the passport office in Pattaya has been closed until further notice, as part of measures to control the rapid spread of Covid-19 in Chon Buri province.

Chon Buri governor Pakkathorn Thienchai on Wednesday signed an order of the provincial communicable disease committee to shut the Pattaaya passport office from Wednesday.

New Covid death, linked to migrant labour
6 Jan 2021 at 13:05
A man who drove migrant labourers to and from work has died after catching Covid-19, as the government reported 365 new infections.

His death raised the number of fatalities from the disease in Thailand to 66. The tally of confirmed cases had risen to 9,331 as of Wednesday.

Taweesilp Visanuyothin, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration spokesman, said the latet fatality was a 63-year-old man who drove foreign labourers to their jobs and back to their accommodation in Samut Sakhon.

The man was admitted to a hospital in the province on Dec 27 and pronounced dead on Tuesday from multiple organ failure, he said.

Of the 365 new cases, 250 were local community infections and 99 were migrant workers, and the 16 others arrivals from overseas.

The CCSA said Chon Buri topped new transmissions, followed by Samut Prakan, Chanthaburi and Bangkok.

Dear CEONews, you do realize that Koh Chang and Koh Si Chang are two completely different places, don't you?

Koh Chang is in Trat province right alongside the Cambodian border.
Koh Si Chang is in Chonburi, off the coast from Laem Chabang.

The travel restrictions in Chanthaburi, Chonburi (including Pattaya), Trat, Rayong & Samut Sakhon start today. If you want to cross provincial borders you must have a good reason and get travel documents from your nearest district office

so far, other than school closing, phuket remains open

With the province sealed off for what was the only show in town, local tourism, and more or less everything except restaurants closed, if today is anything to go by Sin city is set to be the quietest it has ever been on record in normally the busiest month of the year.

looks bad...in Pattaya.

nice to know there are still some that will make a "killing" out of this

The share price of Vibhavadi Hospital (Vibha) rose by Bt0.19, or 10.56 per cent, to Bt1.99 per share in the morning session on Friday over news that the hospital had ordered up to 60,000 doses of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine.

“After receiving FDA approval, we will allow people to reserve their vaccination,” he said, adding that each person would be charged Bt6,000-Bt10,000.

Thailand:
245 new Covid cases Sunday, 224 local
updated: 10 Jan 2021 at 13:53
writer: Online reporters
The government on Sunday recorded 245 new coronavirus cases, including 224 local transmissions, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to date to 10,298.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said that aside from the 224 local transmissions, 21 infections were found among new arrivals in the country and in quarantine centres.

No new deaths were reported, leaving the accumulated toll at 67.

CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said Samut Sakhon was the province with the most new local infections (73), followed by Chon Buri (49), Samut Prakan (23), Bangkok (22) and Rayong (15). The figures in Samut Sakhon included 22 migrant workers found in active testing, he added.

Thais returning from work at the Sky Complex casino in Myawaddy to Mae Sot district of Tak led the tally of imported infections -- with 17 cases – while two Thai nationals arriving from Turkey and India tested positive for Covid-19. Two foreigners — a US citizen from the United States and a Hungarian — wrapped up the infections from overseas.

The infected Thai nationals who worked at the Myawaddy casino returned to Mae Sot through a checkpoint on Thursday, after Thailand temporarily opened the border to allow them to escape the outbreak in the Myanmar border town.

The virus has spread to 58 provinces since the new outbreak started in mid-December, with Samut Sakhon logging the highest number of infections at 3,261.
