Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Stung Treng province, Cambodia News: According to Phan Chandy, he had rented a backhoe for $5000 to dig an irrigation ditch at Phalkun Puthisak Pagoda in Trapeang Prey village.
Image
He said that while he was working on Monday morning, 24 February 2020, a terrifying incident occurred at 11am, when some petrol was leaking on the engine, which then ignited, setting the machine on fire. He was lucky to escape.

Neighbors came with a water truck to help extinguish the fire, but it was too late and the $140,000 backhoe was completely burnt to a shell.

Hydraulic fluid causes fires like that. I remember once when a machine went up due to leaves in the engine compartment and it melted a line, which caused a whoosh......luckily, it was in the mud so you had three guys flinging mud in that engine compartment as fast as they could. Worked too.

Yeah, even leaves building up around hydraulic lines will do it.

Operator maybe stoking a fire to clear land and never cleaned his machine.

That excavator may have been $140000 new onetime, but even before fire I reckon half that.
