“I am a bad English teacher”

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. “I am a bad English teacher”

Post by newkidontheblock »

“I am a bad teacher.” This is what the ACE teacher told the class. The class he is supposed to be teaching to prepare for the IELTS exam. Missus keeps giving him tips in class on how he can be a better teacher. For example, ‘teacher, we don’t understand why this answer is correct. Please explain it to us.’ Response? Crickets. When he took hours to actually clarify something, he just succeeded in confusing everyone even more. Please bring back the teacher who has a brother in the States that’s a brain surgeon. He’s the teacher who should be teaching the final upper level classes.

i dont understand, if ur wifes teacher admits to the class he sucks, why does she attend his class?
surely there must be dozens or more other schools with better teachers.
and why is she giving him "tips" how to run HIS class?

of course this is all coming from her side of things and we all know a Khmer lady is NEVER wrong :stir:

As mentioned on the thread about 'cool English teachers', Cambodia is simply not competitive in terms of attracting English teachers, even at top schools like ACE.

What are the benefits of teaching in Cambodia other than those involving various vices?

Hey newkid,

If I were plonking down a chunk of change for my "missus" to learn English and I was getting dire reports from her about the quality of teachers......

........either I or she (seeing as she's an adult) would make a beeline for the admin office to make an appointment with the principal and/or English coordinator to discuss my concerns.

I assume you've already done this?

Please tell me that either you or your missus has already done so.......please don't tell me that the extent of your action on this issue is to whinge about it on CEO.

It's totally normal that he has his wife record her English classes for him to monitor.
