I AM CHARLIE
For all those who believe in freedom of expression. Against oppression by extremists.
Sorry to be dramatic (hyperbolic) but the line must be drawn.
I am with them in spirit.

I wonder how the Khmer would handle such a situation like this in Cambodia. I dont think it will be hashtags, roses, marches and a day of pray.
Kabyle is the minority language of Algeria. Hamid said: “I am Kabyle and I am Muslim. These killers were not Muslims. I am here to say that I support the democratic values of France and I am also a devout Muslim.”
"Speaking is a means to achieve objectives. If a praiseworthy aim is attainable through both telling the truth and lying, it is unlawful to accomplish through lying because there is no need for it. When it is possible to achieve such an aim by lying but not by telling the truth, it is permissible to lie if attaining the goal is permissible (N:i.e. when the purpose of lying is to circumvent someone who is preventing one from doing something permissible), and obligatory to lie if the goal is obligatory... it is religiously precautionary in all cases to employ words that give a misleading impression...
In summary:
"One should compare the bad consequences entailed by lying to those entailed by telling the truth, and if the consequences of telling the truth are more damaging, one is entitled to lie.
My Allah be upon you.

I AM A RIGHT PROPER CHARLIE!
Re: I AM CHARLIE
Having spent most of my working life in the Islamic countries of the world, I believe all those Muslims publicly spouting peace and tolerance and condemning the recent attacks in France are whispering to each other, out of microphone and camera range, "...but, this would never have happened if they did not print those forbidden, sacrilegious images of the beloved prophet, PBUH. So, really, they had it coming!!!"
Peace is only allowed for those who completely and utterly submit to their will, and don't offend their sensibilities in any way. Everyone else is of no consequence to them.

Re: I AM CHARLIE
I heard there were no virgins left - too many martyrs.
It is a real failure on the part of the French system that some people who are born in France do not understand the concept of liberty of expression. I read an article where some Muslim school kids were clearly confused about mocking religion - for them, it is forbidden to criticize the prophet. Yet, mocking religion has a long tradition in French society. In the Middle Ages, there were many tales of bawdy priests and drunk monks. The Pope was often made fun of.
I know that Americans are more religious and therefore probably more sensitive about mocking religion, but if you outlaw everything that causes offense, you might as well live in Saudi.
If a publication offends you, then don't read it. You are a free person with free-will. Don't go to a brothel if you are shocked by prostitutes.

Largest demonstration in French history - and that's saying something :

World leaders come together in a rare show of unity:
Another two million marched in more than 60 similar demonstrations in towns and cities across the country. They marched to say “I am Charlie” but also “I am Jewish” and “I am a policeman” after three days of terrorist mayhem starting with the massacre at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo last Wednesday.
And as if that were not remarkable enough, there was an unprecedented march of the powerful within the “march of the one and a half million”. Forty-four world leaders linked arms and walked down the Boulevard Voltaire, pausing for a minute’s silence and then again when the names of the 17 victims were broadcast over a loudspeaker. The victims were listed alphabetically, anarchist cartoonists, Jewish supermarket.

Re: I AM CHARLIE
This is kind of naive. Islam categorically teaches that anyone who isn't a Muslim is an apostate, and that if an apostate refuses to submit to Islam, they must be killed. Christianity has many faults, but it has nothing comparable to that. When a Muslim is overly sensitive to any form of mockery of their religion, they are simply following their scripture. Just because there are "more" of one religion than another in a certain place, that doesn't make them automatically more sensitive or fundamentalist.Anchor Moy wrote:I know that Americans are more religious and therefore probably more sensitive about mocking religion
