Malaysia reports first case of Indian COVID-19 variant
Reuters, 2 May 2021
2 minute read

Malaysia has detected its first case of a highly infectious coronavirus variant first identified in India, Health Minister Adham Baba said on Sunday, days after imposing a ban on flights from India.

The variant, named B.1.617, was detected in an Indian national screened at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, he said.

The World Health Organisation has described it as a "variant of interest", suggesting it may have mutations that would make the virus more transmissible, cause more severe disease or evade vaccine immunity. read more

"We advise the public to remain calm... All public health efforts will continue in order to break the chain of infection and ensure public safety," Adham said.

He did not say when the variant was detected.

Malaysia, which is facing a surge in COVID-19 cases, on Wednesday banned flights to and from India and prohibited travellers from any Indian destination from entering the country to prevent the spread of the new variant.

Yesterday's video from John Campbell looked at a new peer-reviewed article from Italy. Samples were taken further to research into the causes of lung cancer from September 2019 to February 2020. Happily these samples were kept and later got tested for Covid. 111 of them were positive and right from Sep 2019. The positives were all asymptomatic and came from many parts of Italy, including Sardinia and Sicily, but the largest source was Lombardy. JC regards the data as proving definitively that Covid was present in Italy from August 2019.

Separate data shows proof of an infected patient in France in December 2019.

Italian radiologists do not come out well from other data that shows many frail, elderly patients with respiratory problems were not diagnosed with organising pneumonia in early 2020, it was an unusual condition pre-Covid and missing it was not helpful in early 2020.

Isn't there a significant Chinese population in Italy?

Ah, Armchairlawyer beat me to it.

That was a very revealing report by Dr. John Campbell, with three lines of proof of SARSCOV-2 circulating months before January 2020. The first being the discovery of antibodies for SARSCOV-2 in stored blood samples from early September, 2019, to March 2020.

This is fascinating: Another line of proof were the satellite images of the Wuhan Hospital with a huge increase of traffic at the hospital in the autumn of 2019, and the last line of proof, a huge uptick in search engine activity for respiratory diseases in the autumn from China.

So the Chinese began dealing with an upsurge in a serious new respiratory infection long before Dr. Li Wenliang (RIP) and others blew the whistle in late December. Basically, there was a long term coverup of a health hazard by the Chinese.

@Apollo91881 Yes, the Lombardy region has a large population of Chinese migrant workers, as reported by Dr Campbell. Plus, northern Italy was a popular destination for Chinese fashion shoppers, as reported in later studies.

Now for some good news; you can drink alcohol after being vaccinated for Covid :
1h ago 11:50
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the UK regulator, has said there is no evidence that drinking alcohol after a Covid vaccine interferes with how it works.

It was responding to social media reports suggesting that people should abstain from drinking for up to two weeks after a vaccine.

A spokesperson for the MHRA told PA Media:
There is currently no evidence that drinking alcohol interferes with the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccines. We would advise anyone concerned about this to talk to their healthcare professional.

A very detailed new scientific report has indicated the way things are going to look in the long term.

The main points are:
Airborne droplets are the main problem, don't worry about surface contact
The six foot rule does not really help, nor does the 15 minute rule.
What does help is (very) good ventilation, and masks.

https://www.pnas.org/content/118/17/e2018995118

Things are going to slide
Slide in all directions
Won't be nothing (won't be)
Nothing you can measure anymore
The blizzard, the blizzard of the world
Has crossed the threshold
And it's overturned
The order of the soul

Follow the leader: In Iraq the Shiite population trusts the religious clerics on vaccination.

4h ago 09:15
Iraq’s vaccine rollout had been faltering for weeks, but a populist Shiite cleric’s public endorsement of vaccinations – and images of him getting the shot last week – have begun to turn things around.

Abdulrahman Zeyad at Associated Press reports from Baghdad that hundreds of followers of Muqtada al-Sadr are now heading to clinics to follow his example, underscoring the power of sectarian loyalties in Iraq and deep mistrust of the state.

“I was against the idea of being vaccinated. I was afraid, I didn’t believe in it,” said Manhil Alshabli, a 30-year-old Iraqi from the holy city of Najaf. “But all this has changed now.”

“Seeing him getting the vaccine has motivated me,” said Alshabli, speaking by phone from Najaf where he and many other al-Sadr loyalists got their shots. Alshabli compared it to soldiers being energized when they see their leader on the frontline.

Iraq has grappled with a severe second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. New case numbers spiked to over 8,000 per day last month, the highest they have ever been. The surge was driven largely by public apathy toward the virus. Many routinely flout virus-related restrictions, refusing to wear face masks and continuing to hold large public gatherings. Daily rates have decreased in the last week, with 5,068 new cases reported on Monday.

Iraq’s health ministry has repeatedly tried to reassure Iraqis that the vaccines are not harmful, but this has not convinced many who harbour long-standing distrust of the health care system.

Of course, the women have to wear face masks whenever in public; before, during and after this pandemic.

Interesting impact given high vaccination rate
You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body.
