The army boys got the first batches of vaccine, which was SinoPharm. Plus lots of government people, with the notable exception of HE, who got the AZ one because he is over 60.

Foe some reason the SinpPharm was only for the -60, which begs the question, what is the point of that? It's the 60+ age range that are most at risk (in any normal country)

Rio De Janeiro: Brazil currently accounts for one-quarter of the entire world’s daily COVID-19 deaths, far more than any other single nation, and health experts are warning that the nation is on the verge of even greater calamity.

The nation’s seven-day average of 2400 deaths stands to reach to 3000 within weeks, six experts said. That’s nearly the worst level seen by the US, though Brazil has two-thirds its population. Spikes of daily deaths could soon hit 4000; on Friday (Brazil time) there were 3650. On Saturday there were 3438 deaths, the Health Ministry said.

The US has seen its death toll plunge since late January amid a massive vaccine rollout, and its seven-day average has dipped below 1000. By contrast, Brazil’s vaccine rollout has been strained, at best. The government bet big on a single vaccine provider, AstraZeneca, while for months rejecting offers to purchase others. Only after delivery delays from AstraZeneca jeopardised rollout did Brazil’s health ministry begin buying — but too late for most deliveries to arrive in the first half of this year.

Missus has found the sunshine here much more oppressive and the humidity much worse, and stays indoors most of the time. Only bearable to go outside near twilight. Mostly no open air anything in the western world.

Cold showers are out of the question with houses buttoned up on aircon. She’s gotten ‘Buffalo skin’ from taking hot showers.

On the plus side, she’s gotten a lot darker inside the house. Lack of whitening cream in every skin care product probably helps, too.

We’ve taken to double masking when going out anywhere. One KN95 with a regular procedural face mask on top.

N95 made from Honeywell is very hard to get.
