A military personnel infected with COVID-19 despite his second dose
.Ministry of Defence General Tea Banh announced tonight a military officer has been infected with COVID-19 despite receiving his second dose.
“I would like to call on all troops who are doing the vaccination work to be more careful,” he said, adding that they must follow the Health Ministry’s health measures strictly.
Recently, a military personnel and a journalist were found infected with COVID-19 despite being vaccinated for the first dose

Yes. Because antibodies take time to develop. You need at least four weeks after first vaccination to develop any protection, and preferably have the second dose as well for added protection.
And even then the real-world efficacy is about 85%, not 100%.

And it was the Sinopharm one, so there's that too.
Re: Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion
Took the words right out of my mouth. They conveniently didn't mention the Chinese vaccine, none of which manufacturers have published any data with the usual journals, yet millions of doses have been sent around the world.
And, yes, it's true it takes 2-3 weeks for the body to develop sufficient anti-bodies after the first dose, but at least three of the western vaccines are very effective 2-3 weeks after the first dose, with AZ getting stronger as the weeks roll on after the first dose.
PS: Since the first Sinopharm doses arrived in early February, it would behoove authorities to collect data on its effectiveness and report results. So far, just the sound of crickets. So it's a bit surprising the military made this announcement.

Things are getting more complicated..
A new coronavirus variant found in France can hide from COVID-19 nasal-swab tests
A region of France has been beset by a version of the coronavirus that can hide from standard tests. The French ministry of health and social affairs announced Monday that among a cluster of 79 COVID-19 cases in Brittany, eight patients were infected with the new variant, but several of them tested negative. Despite those negative tests, the patients showed typical COVID-19 symptoms.
The new variant does not yet have a alphanumeric designation. But it’s not the first variant that appears able to evade testing. Finnish researchers announced last month that they had identified a strain named Fin-796H with a mutation that made it difficult to detect with some nasal-swab tests, too.
An inability to accurately diagnose infected people could make it harder to curtail the virus’s spread at a time when cases across Europe are already spiking.

South Korea seen revising rules on tests for foreign workers
March 19, 2021
published at 1:46 AM Reuters
SEOUL - Rules singling out foreign workers for mandatory coronavirus testing in parts of South Korea will soon be partially revised, diplomatic missions and commerce organisations said on Thursday (March 18) after they had complained to authorities.
Seoul and neighbouring Gyeonggi Province are among a number of local governments that have ordered all foreign workers to be tested, drawing accusations of xenophobia.
In an email message to French citizens late on Thursday, France’s Ambassador Philippe Lefort said that due to the intervention of the diplomatic community as well as the European and American chambers of commerce, authorities were “on the verge of partially modifying the measures.”
In a statement on its website, the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea said that after talks with South Korea’s foreign investment ombudsman, the directives in Seoul and Gyeonggi “will be corrected” and an official announcement would shortly be made by authorities.
It was unclear exactly what the modified policies would be and there was no immediate comment from health authorities.

its called the UK variant because thats where it was discovered, like how the spanish flu is called the spanish flu, the UK variant is pretty well spread now across the world, it could have come from anywhere
Re: Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion
You can't call it the Chinese virus because of the confusion it will cause. What do we call all the other viruses past and future that will come from there. It should be called the 5th Chinese virus or something

I'm trying to figure out the ramifications of this news. Once you get past the obvious question of: if they can't detect it, how do they know it exists?clutchcargo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 2:50 pm Things are getting more complicated..

However, the international travel situation might become even worse. Some countries might start thinking that if shoving a swab up everyone's noses at the airport doesn't work anymore, maybe they should completely seal their borders until they can figure out what to do?
This obviously does not include Chinese nationals sneaking across the border with Vietnam or Laos. They will continue to be welcomed as usual.
