California-grown Cambodian princess discusses independence, journey away from royal family

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Monday on our 3 p.m. show Getting Answers, we talked to Princess Soma Norodom of Cambodia. Like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, she walked away from royal life.
Reverberations continue from the U.S. to the U.K., after Markle's bombshell interview with Oprah about her suffering in the royal family. Markle shared the extent to which palace officials controlled her, even when it had to do with her mental health. Someone who understands what Markle's journey and rebellion against convention is a Cambodian princess who grew up in California.
Princess Soma Norodom came to the U.S. at age five, in the first wave of refugees to flee after the Khmer Rouge took power. Princess Soma's father was the third cousin to the King, hence in the line of succession. She grew up thoroughly American, playing sports, doing cheerleading, attending Fresno State University, becoming a radio show host, journalist and marketing professional.
But in 2010, as her father was dying, Soma wanted to fulfill his wish, and returned to Cambodia to care for him and claim her birthright, as princess.
The American-raised princess soon found herself at odds with palace officials. She wrote a column for a local newspaper, revealing the drama inside the royal family an the extent to which the government controlled the monarchy.
Soon dubbed a heretic, Princess Soma was charged with insurrection and had to flee Cambodia.

This attention-seeking semi-literate nobody is at it again. Maybe the writer should have figured out that there are hundreds of Cambodian "royals", and there is zero chance of succession for most of them.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 8:48 am Like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, she walked away from royal life.

The saga continues..
Police called frequently to Prince Harry and Meghan’s California mansion
Police have been called to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s California home nine times in as many months, after the couple expressed concern about the decision to strip them of round-the-clock police protection.
Since the couple moved into the property in Montecito, Santa Barbara, last July, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has responded to calls listed as phone requests, alarm activations and property crimes.

The Duchess, 39, revealed she had written letters pleading with the royal family not to take away her husband’s personal protection officers, warning he was facing death threats.
She complained that depriving their son, Archie, of a title had put his safety and risk and said there had been “no explanation” for the decision.
UK police protection for the Sussexes was withdrawn after they had stepped down from royal duties, following a meeting of the Government body in charge of overseeing Royal and VIP protection.
The Prince of Wales then refused to foot the bill out of his own pocket.
The couple now pay their significant security bill themselves. The cost is so high it is thought to have been the main reason for their decision to seek lucrative business deals with companies such as Netflix and Spotify.
