Woman Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run
Kompong Thom: On January 8, 2020, at 6:10 am on National Road 6 between Kilometers 1977-198 in Khleam Village, Sar Nokor Commune, Kampong Svay District, Kampong Thom Province, a vehicle hit a pedestrian crossing the highway, killing her instantly. RIP.
The victim is identified as Phun Tam Tam, a 38-year-old woman, living in Dilk village, Sar Nokor commune, Kampong Svay district, Kampong Thom province. Apparently, she was not watching the traffic when she crossed the road. The driver and vehicle have yet to be identified, because the driver did not stop at the accident scene but drove off in a hurry.

No different than killing a dog to them.

Re: Woman Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run
That's a very judgemental thing to say. In this case we don't know why the driver did a runner, but IMO they were probably afraid of being killed by an angry mob.
Re: Woman Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run
Why do hit and run drivers not go direct to the closest police station to report what they have done if they are "afraid" to stop and offer assistance?

In certain areas of Australia the cops advise to never stop after hitting a person and instead go to the nearest police station or drive a decent distance away and call them.
The mob mentality combined with alcohol consumption has led to a few drivers receiving roadside justice even if they were not at fault.

Would you care to provide some evidence or more detail about this claim. As an Aussie for the last 35 years I have never ever heard this before. The penalties for not stopping after being involved in a collision causing injury are severe.Kahuna wrote:In certain areas of Australia the cops advise to never stop after hitting a person and instead go to the nearest police station or drive a decent distance away and call them.

Re: Woman Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run
In the Northern Territory it is widely known and the cops will tell you. Several instances happened in and around Darwin when I was there (8 years) and the police reinforced it in statements to the local newspaper. It also occurs in North Queensland and an incident occurred when a drunk bloke was fighting on the road among a large group was hit by a car. The driver stopped and was dragged from the car and bashed. She was 64 years old but that didn't stop the mob. The driver spent 6 months in hospital in a secure room after members of the deceased's family came looking for revenge.
The man she hit died on the way to hospital and was found to have a a very high blood alcohol level in his system, the driver spent 6 months in hospital in a secure room after members of the deceased's family came looking for revenge.
This was widely reported across all the major newspapers in Australia at the time.
Not sure where you live(d) in Australia but outside of the capital cities life can be different at times and more so in the North of Australia. The "do not stop in remote areas or if driving alone. Report it as soon as possible when safe to do so" was part of our road safety brief when I was sent to the Northern Territory.

Australia is rapidly becoming less appealing as a tourist destination
