For the guys in these pictures, this has to be the best times in their lives and probably all they talk about within their trusted circle. As far as their relationships went on their return home, I'm sure they paled in comparison. I find these girls in these pictures really beautiful. Not going to find these girls or this scene anywhere else.

Sadly, I hate to think what happened to them unless they escaped from the subsequent regime.
Anyone collaborating with the enemy would have been dealt with harshly by the North Vietnamese.
Reminds me of what the French did to their own..

Great job Clutch. The women are absolutely gorgeous. My wife says some are Cambodian... I cannot tell for sure.
That is very strange and the guy in it smiling than with the rabbit ears is a strange cat.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 6:18 pmSadly, I hate to think what happened to them unless they escaped from the subsequent regime.

This is indeed true. Women who had been in relationships with US troops were persecuted. Although there was a "soft" period between the North's taking of saigon/ South Vietnam in 1975, in 1976 the country officially re-unified and everything changed.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 6:18 pmSadly, I hate to think what happened to them unless they escaped from the subsequent regime.

http://factsanddetails.com/southeast-as ... -3419.htmlthe new government tried to eliminate prostitution by closing brothels and sending prostitutes to work or to so-called reeducation centers. Between 1975 and 1985, 14,304 prostitutes in Ho Chi Minh City were sent to those centers. The Government claimed that prostitution was eradicated in the South by 1985. But as Stephanie Fahey (1998) remarked: "In a country where the Communist Party attempted to eradicate prostitution and pornography, prostitutes are now found in almost every bar, restaurant and hotel whether private or state-owned."
The mixed children of US servicemen and local women that were left behind suffered terribly, especially the half-black ones, perhaps because they looked so different. These were called “children of the dust”.
As an aside, a Vietnam vet friend told me how they had to sneak out through the perimeter of their base at night to get to the nearby village where the ladies were. They would have to evade watchtowers, and crawl through razor wire in an area they had mined themselves, then sneak back in a few hours later. That's determination for you.
A bit later on the regulations changed:
https://www.nytimes.com/1972/01/25/arch ... bases.htmlQUINHON, South Vietnam. Jan. 24 (UPI)—The United States Army has opened its gates to Vietnamese prostitutes at several bases in South Vietnam and Army spokesmen said such a thing is apparently permissible under current regulations.
Officers said there were many security risks and a strong possibility of narcotics smuggling. But many said they supported the practice to keep peace within the increasingly disgruntled ranks of Americans still left in Vietnam.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

God I love these photos!
Romantic as it all seems in 20/20 hindsight, let's keep in mind that things 'are what they are' no matter what angle we look at it.

I knew plenty of people who were there. None of them called the experience "the best time of their lives". Many told me it ruined theirs.Cooldude wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 10:23 pm For the guys in these pictures, this has to be the best times in their lives and probably all they talk about within their trusted circle.
