Gangs and Grenades shock South Pattaya Community
Posted on December 30, 2014
Just before 3am on Tuesday, local residents in a South Pattaya community were awoken by the sounds of an explosion and the sound of many motorbikes and men shouting
Police rushed to the scene in Soi Khopai 1 off the South Pattaya Road, led by Police Colonel Supatee, the Chief of Pattaya Police who is currently dealing with an upsurge in gang-related violence as groups of youths attend the Pattaya Countdown Festival in South Pattaya.
At the scene were two unexploded grenades which were secured pending the arrival of Royal Thai Navy Bomb Disposal Officers. A total of 3 devices were found on the street and one of them had earlier exploded.
Local residents told Police that around 20 motorbikes were being driven at-speed along the road and it appeared that one group was chasing the other.
The positioning of the hand grenades on the street suggested to Police that one was thrown which did not explode and then two others were thrown together with one of them detonating.
A check with local Hospitals indicated that no one with injuries consistent with an explosion had as-yet presented themselves and investigators are now checking CCTV in the area to ascertain which local gangs were involved.

What countries do NOT have these?
People feel far safer in Thailand than anywhere in the Philippines or parts of most major cities in the world.

Obviously you don't mean grenades - they're pretty unusual. Thailand is really safe (except on the roads), but I don't think Pattaya is all that safe anymore. It'll seem like Geneva if you're comparing it to Manila though.

No, have to disagree with you there, most countries do not have gang warfare with hand-grenades in the streets of their main tourist sites. And feeling safer than in the Philippines is not a great reference IMO.sigmoid wrote:What countries do NOT have these?

perhaps the locals should string steel strand across that street, connected to fast actuating electric winches. At general neck level.
