Andy's version of the creation story
Yes, there's some good images in the video, a little like the one here, being something that many of the members of a photo group from my home town like to photograph. Not my photo.

And there upon the limestone pavement it is all alone.

For fans:
The Banksy exhibition, "The World of Banksy", re-opens in Paris next week, and will remain open until the end of the year (if there are no public health problems.)

Multi scrillionaire Banksy is trying to dance on the head of a pin in Australia right now
- desperately trying to keep his cred as a Street Artist, at the same time as paying silky expensive lawyers to act in big courtroom dramas in order to protect his assets.

https://www.smh.com.au/culture/art-and- ... 587k2.html

I admire Banksy's work.
Art in the broader definition? - for sure.
High Art, of the kind generally valued at the lofty sums his work now fetches? - Not in my book.
more like an excellent satirical cartoonist.
I reckon he will end up being regarded as a talented early 21st century fad, rather than deserving of a place in civilisations noblest galleries.

And i have always thought he lost his cred as a real Street Artist a long time ago. Not according to my understanding of the philosophy and usual practice of this specialist Art.
(unless you want to get all post-modernist and claim that the term means nothing - or anything you want it to)

just my view, and i admit it is pretty fundamentalist "street"

If it’s not a bunch of fruit in a bowl or a bewildered lass with her tits out, it’s not proper art.

"Good question you pose, Nerd
What is that a definition of proper art?

- what "pictures" really are worth.... say, 10 million bucks?
- what are our civilisations highest flowerings, worthy of our finest galleries and to teach about to our kids from primary school age?

- and of course, this morning's original
Can you own, copyright and licence your work and still lay valid claim to being a authentic "Street Artist" ??

The Street Art question is pretty clear cut for me.
The first two are hugely more fraught.

SternAAlbifrons I will try and give you some kind of answer, but it would only be a view of someone who enjoys looking at street art. I would say that there is no definition of proper art, unless the critic, is looking for that of some type of style, such has from the old masters, but also it possible maybe helpful for the critic, and any potential buyer of ones artists work, if they had a little history, such has what art school or teacher had he/she perfected any skills. Is the artist going to produce more work, being recognised for a number of paintings and style.
Here we have seen Banksy, producing art, ongoing. He came in to the critics and public eyes in a different way! He was challenging the street artists of the day, and mostly where they may paint was firstly, trespassing, defacing, so in all an illegal act on that of the artist part, but also Banksy kept up the elusiveness and privacy.
I would think because of the nature and culture of the street art scene at the time, plus some very good publicity it helped Banksy along at the time, and also no doubt the sale of his work.
What paintings are worth the 10 million bucks you have mentioned. I would think whoever wanted to pay the price, not forgetting it may not be an art lover let's say who bought the painting, but that only of an investor. lets not forget it was very rare that one of the old masters ever sold their work for a good price whilst they were still living.

Quote - Can you own, copyright and licence your work and still lay valid claim to being a authentic "Street Artist" ??
It would be easier if the artist was known, but it would see you more then likely fined for doing so, if the person did not have permission to paint. Otherwise too the artist could also see his masterpiece washed off the wall by the afternoon.
