Should criminals be deported?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

How about turning the issue on it’s head. An expat has been living in Cambodia for years and now commits a crime. He considers Cambodia his home. Then he commits a crime and serves his time in the big house. Isn’t it cruel that the government now deports him back to the west?

The deportees are free to live as expats in other countries. They could move to Mexico or Canada for example. They are free to go where they can on a Cambodian passport. It’s not like there’s only 2 countries in the world...

Case by case, surely?
What if that expat was running drug trafficking. Had a criminal intent from the beginning. What country doesn’t produce enough criminals of its own that it needs to import them?
Send them back.

As i stated, living in a country 5,10,30 years doesn't mean shit if ur not a citizen, no legal rights to remain in the country commit a crime, sent away....

Bet NONE of them held khmer passports so they would have only been sent back to their birth country, where they could apply for a pp an go where they wanted, IF they could get a visa
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Following the introduction of a new policy in 2010 to crack down on illegal immigration a number of these British Citizens started to have problems despite having attend school, worked and paid taxis in the UK all their lives. A simple act of applying for a passport or driving licence or indeed collecting a state pension could trigger an investigation and due to the lack of proof of entry dates threatened with deportation.

Over 80 people were in fact deported and others detained in immigration centers or refused re entry to the UK until following a lot of media coverage the government decided to investigate
That's fucked. British citizens are paying taxis and are still getting deported. Man. They should take an Uber next time if they want to avoid deportation.

Huh? Mexico and Canada don't grant visas that easily. Trynna get a refugee visa in Canada with an extensive criminal record in the US? Not gonna happen. European countries? hahahaha...

Is there a loophole in the law that would allow passport-less refugees with a criminal record to settle in countries other than Cambodia and the like?

Choices seem very limited for Cambodian passport holders... Countries in grey: Cambodian citizens must apply for a tourist visa before leaving Cambodia. A damn tourist visa...
