Facebook Translate - A work in progress

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

That's right.

Maybe in some cases.

But if you look at the pictures, there are definitely some situations where they use bb referring to a girl.

There seems to be some people in Cambodia also using Vietnamese, just to add to the confusion.

I dont understand all Facebook ‘Khmer’ language. Maybe others can help out too.

sl - probably love

jit - close

som - please

nak - miss

Who can tell us others, either listed here or not listed here?

The meaning of some words can only be got from the context. For example:

mean - have, if they are speaking Khmer. If they are speaking English, it is the English word.

men - true, if they are speaking Khmer. If they are speaking English, it is the English word.

IMO, FB translation of Khmer, even in well structured sentences, is totally useless and way way worse than GT. So, yes, work in progress, cannot regress.

Just to clarify, the OP message 'Sart nas bb' was from mother to daughter. The bb was baby, but is not a usual spoken term between them. It was a play on what they've seen from many fb friends from other countries who always write 'sart bb'. Also, bb is sometimes used by me as a joke to them.

Got it, bb?

Excited to see that option in the coming days. I found a bit of error in google translate but still a manageable thing.
