Chinese Man Mugged in Phnom Penh Airport Taxi Pick Up

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On October 28, 2019, at 9:50 pm, a 27-year-old man, Soeun Tha, a taxi driver, was arrested after robbing Chinese man on Trong Man village, Sangkat Aubak Kaom, Phnom Penh. Two other suspects escaped arrest and are being sought.

The taxi driver picked up the victim from Phnom Penh International Airport and went to a quiet place, where he called his two team mates to come and rob the victim.
The victim was identified as WANG JIAGI, a 36-year-old tourist, who is staying at a hotel on Preah Monivong road. The victim had US$5,532 , 150,000 riels, and an iPhone XR stolen in the robbery.

After the arrest, the police confiscated a Camry car plate no. 2AM-3510, and money for 1,668 USD and 150,000 riels. The suspect was sent to Khan Sen Sok police station, and police have questioned him on the identity of the other two suspects.

I dare say the two mates have managed to spend a fair bit of their share of the USD already. A few quastions as to why old mate was carrying such a large sum (to me anyway) and was it all in his wallet? Did the crooks just get lucky?
Looks like the suspect also "resisted arrest".

A lot of Chinese carry pretty large wedges.

As to the perp and his 'minor injuries', when he's back at the station, I'm sure he will be coughing up his buddies and the whereabouts of the missing dough.
