Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Yeah well, i was being a bit grumpy. I thought it best to be more polite and deleted that slightly rude reference to his youthful appearance.
Personally, even with the few top brass i know and like, i have been pretty harsh on our leaders.
But i am not a black/white kinda guy and i understand some of their challenges.
I know there are some very fine people at the top (believe it or not)
And, i do firmly believe that serious reform is about to be implemented.
At last.

Loan sharks arrested for confining countrymen

Preah Sihanouk provincial military police yesterday arrested six Chinese nationals for allegedly confining ten of their countrymen who owed money to a casino.

Brigadier General Heng Bunty, commander of the provincial military police, yesterday said the six were loan sharks who worked for the casino in Sihanoukville.

Brig Gen Bunty said they were arrested yesterday morning at a villa in Muoy commune by forces led by the provincial court prosecutor.

He noted that military police found out about the ten victims after their families alerted military police on Saturday.

Casino money lenders are out in the open in most of the casinos. Big bag full of money and a group of runners hanging around.

Wonder what the interest rate is?

We have an idea from this story what happens if you can't pay back.

The Wild West has nothing on Sihanoukville!!!

Cambodia: Police Arrest Six Chinese Nationals Over Casino-Related Kidnapping Charges

Loan sharks have been active in the region, including in countries like the Philippines and Cambodia. Casino and gambling-related debts and crime has been on the rise.

On Sunday, the Preah Sihanouk provincial military police arrested six Chinese nationals. Those arrested have been charged for kidnapping and confining 10 of their countrymen over casino debt.

Commenting on the arrests, Brigadier General Heng Bunty, commander of the provincial military police, confirmed that the six accused were loan sharks who were working for a casino in Cambodia’s gambling hub of Sihanoukville.

“They were arrested on Sunday after provincial military police forces raided their rented villa in Sihanoukville,” Brig Gen Bunty said.

“After they were arrested, military police rescued ten Chinese men,” he added. “Handcuffs, torches, six phones, and other materials were seized.”

The victims have been returned to their families.

However, the photo in the above article does not resemble the seven Chinese suspects from the OP. And, who is the seventh Chinese man, who appears in the OP photo, but was not arrested ? Is there one of these gentlemen that does not look like a loan shark thug ? (In other words, can you pick the one who does not belong in this line-up ?)

;-) He'd be from the Village People :rave: (sangkat3, Sihanoukville).

I don't know, but it doesn't seem like the same bunch of Chinese in the two photos. Lol, it's not that they all look alike, because they don't, but there are so many arrests these days for Chinese loanshark kidnappings that it's hard to keep track.

9 are in the Casino News Pic

According to the figures released by China’s Ministry of Public Security, about 1000 suspects have been arrested by Chinese and Cambodian authorities over charges of illegal online gambling, telecommunications fraud and gambling-related organized crimes.

HE had a big show on today with 40 Chinese investors at the Peace Palace. Reaffirmed the ban and crackdown...

“Online gambling gives us low taxes, but brings about many issues like crime and money laundering,”

“Even though the kingdom adheres to free market regime, her economy does not depend on gambling. We prefer major investment on various sectors,”
