Breaking news from Cambodia can be found here. CEO often finds Khmer news and translates it into English for our readers if it is interesting to expats, locals, Cambodians living abroad and anyone who wants to stay informed of the latest local and international news stories about Cambodia and our neighbors in South East Asia. There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

Uncle, sister and gay cameraman are probably all part of the same tontine circle and this guy's money missing is ruining their loanshark mojo. There is no way this is going to court.

This is potentially a dangerous game... and definitely one sided. Nonetheless, I wonder how skilful Mr Babaian is with the violin. Give us a tune, sir.

She left $200 in her kitchen for him to pick up while she was not there. Why did he have access to her kitchen? Did he have keys to her residence? Why? That is not a normal loanshark relationship. What was their relationship? Why has this information been omitted from the story telling?

"She also confirmed that she saw him at work on September 10, and the video where she confronts him was on September 12."

She clearly also saw him on September 12, when she videoed him outside Canadian International School of Phnom Penh.

The screenshots say he was outside PP not Cambodia, but I guess the lady knows better

The written letter of Aug 2019 still quotes his old expired visa.
That was based on the screenshot, but yes, the screenshot only says he left "PP."

She seems sure enough to go to the cops...

The contract does mention the school - so fraud is on the cards..

Like you say though - dodgy as hell..

Maybe we will see him down on 51/63/136 busking soon.

Heard THIS teacher is applying for the new vacancy at CIS - plays somewhat better than fiddlers caterwauling.

Blows him out of the water

By the way, i really do admire his musical talent. My only musical ability is clapping my hands out of sync.

So he turned up at her residence "making noise, problem" and had to sign a statement promising to not do it again. What's the story here?

She left $200 in her kitchen for him to pick up while she was not there. Why did he have access to her kitchen? Did he have keys to her residence? Why? That is not a normal loanshark relationship. What was their relationship? Why has this information been omitted from the story telling?

Did she not see him at work on September 12? The video where she confronts him on September 12 is recorded outside CIS as he is leaving work trying to go to Prince supermarket across the road but is refused entry by Prince security.

Are they ex boyfriend and girlfriend? Were they living together as a couple? Why is he calling her "sister"?

Under which agreement is she demanding interest? What is the interest of this loan? Is it a legal loan? Where is the contract? What credibility do they have bringing this case in front of a judge? Loanshark loans are illegal in Cambodia. What about that $150 interest for uncle and yada yada? Are they gangsters? Is it a real uncle or an "uncle", a connection with strings to pull? Is it a threat?

I agree if she were a loan shark he would be walking with crutches, probably difficult to play the violin with a severed pinky.
Even if they are ex-lovers, it doesn t justify scumbags actions. This guy is a little short of a Nigerian romance scammer, probably about 6 inches. She may well have borrowed from other family members in order to lend it to him though I am amazed by the amount of cash that is robbed from mom and pop shops, why anyone keeps 10,000 USD on hand when you do 100 a day in business makes no sense. He is the kind of prick that should be turned over to those Chinese that chain people to toilets.

Canadian International School of Phnom Penh has reached out to CEO and had this to say:

'Mirab Babaian was signed to a contract at CIS to work as a Strings Tutor and Music Assistant. Unfortunately, this contract was never completely executed as Mr. Babaian was not able to produce his passport for the required working permit. Every teacher at CIS is fully qualified and certified and each one complies with legal requirements in Cambodia for employment. Mr. Babaian also represented a local company that supplied our school with string instruments. Our school paid fully for these instruments as per the company instructions and were not involved in any discussions with the company beyond this. We trust that this clarifies our school's relationship with Mr. Babaian, and hope that the larger situation is resolved amicably for all parties involved. We appreciate the interest in our school and welcome all families to come and visit our campus to find out more about the programs, facilities, and dedicated staff we have to offer to the Phnom Penh community.'

Mirab Babaian has also reached out to CEO. He has said that CIS did, in fact, pay him for some musical instruments, but he did not represent the company and was just the middleman and gave the money he received to the company. He says the money he borrowed to buy instruments with were for some other instruments that the school decided not to buy because they were not exactly what they were looking for (and he says it was probably his fault that he bought the wrong instruments from Malaysia, but the seller is returning his money, but not all at once, but just a few hundred dollars at a time. He says his intentions were never to rip off anyone, but since he was unable to sell the instruments he bought to CIS, this has caused a delay in paying the money that he borrowed back, and the woman he borrowed the money from is making a big deal over nothing. He also said he has not exited the country since his visa expired earlier this year, and as of right now, he is still here on an expired visa, and is not exactly sure what he will do. He said the woman has kept all of his stuff, including some very valuable instrument that belongs to a school.
