Cambodia is now officially one of Southeast Asia’s most expensive countries for expats.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

And I bought 3 boxes of cigarettes today for the price of 1 at home. Filled my car for $45 what would cost me double at home. Ate a fresh seafood meal at a restaurant (starter and main) for $14. Just an example. So many things that are cheaper here than in western countries. Not saying life is cheap here, just depends on what kind of things you compare it with I guess?

I make my own yogurt... Buy milk when it's 50% off and make 5 kilo of yogurt from 10 liters of milk (I strain it so it's thick yogurt)

Interesting, where can you buy it, living in Siem Reap for instance and is it pasteurized? A long drive out to a farm regularly is going to cost $ and take time, unless you're lucky and live right next to one but then you'll be out in the sticks... I just paid $1.20 for 400ml fresh Dutch Milk in a bottle, for the same price in the UK I'd get a 2.27 litre jug, so over 5.5x more expensive here it seems...

Yes and no. As with all matters visa related, multiple factors must be taken into consideration: nationality of the applicant, type of visa etc. 'Blanket' statements are not really helpful.

I just extended my 3-month, multiple entry Business visa for USD $80 (VND 1,900,000). No border run needed.

One little local producer isn't going to have enough market share to make a difference. I'm sure it's more expensive to produce here than in countries like NZ, anyway.
