Most Cambodians on Facebook do not use their real name. They use a nickname, or a made up name. Many use part of their real name, and part is a made up name. For example, with Ya Single, Ya is probably her real name, and Single is made up.

Single is one of the many made up names they use. People using this would normally be single.

Most single Cambodian girls are really innocent, and are not trying to get someone to chat them up. A few bar girls may be.

I have never heard of a Cambodian with the actual name Single.

However, I have heard of a girl named Sexy Girl. Her parents probably heard just enough English to give her a name like that.

Srey (which means female) is very commonly used as part of a girls name. It is on their birth certificate and ID card.

Many Cambodian names have meanings. For example, Pov (Pow) means the youngest child in the family. If the youngest is a girl, she is sometimes named Pov.

Honestly, why would you give up your real name to a predatory company like Facebook? My name on there is Antichrist666 Zuckerberg IsgoingtoHell (jokes, I don't use that blight of a platform). Yeah sure, that's probably not on their minds. But hey, "Single" is a real Cambodian name anyway... right?

They get a new phone and never remember their actual log on email for their new phone. (As most will have auto log on and never sign out so they never have to type in the email address in again). So they have to create a new FB for their new phone.

Many don't know how to do this so they go any phone shop/street stall to add the apps onto the new phone and then they create a new email and create a facebook page for them. They just ask for their name and then the phone guy justs put anything for a surname (unless they actually request their full name). So that's how they usually end up with the strange names like happy, smile, single, uncute, love etc......

Fantastic explanation AUDD thanks! I figured some have boyfriends/husbands (so funny someone commented my wife is on the list haha), I understand now not to text them just because they call themselves single.
