Bringing Cambodia back on tourism bucket lists
Bringing Cambodia back on tourism bucket lists
Khmer times:
As we can see clearly, Siem Reap has seen a massive drop in foreign tourists. There are many factors leading to this problem. First of all, Cambodia is still lacking infrastructure, including roads, and English-speaking experts in tourism. We also do not have enough direct flights, which are very important to promoting tourism and to compete with other countries.

When you convert Siem Reap to a online gambling city...you gain some, you lose some.

Re: Bringing Cambodia back on tourism bucket lists
Maybe putting up the ticket prices for Angkor Archaeological Park wasn't such a great idea?
Silence, exile, and cunning.
Re: Bringing Cambodia back on tourism bucket lists
They can just put the prices up again to balance out the lower ticket sales. Problem solved.John Bingham wrote:Maybe putting up the ticket prices for Angkor Archaeological Park wasn't such a great idea?

Re: Bringing Cambodia back on tourism bucket lists
You cannot just put the price up,,, you must justify the price increase.
Let's see, maybe a 1 % renovation tax,
1 % toilet tax.
1 % Archaeological research tax.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

The problem with Cambodia is, take away Angkor Wat, (and a few other temples) and there is no reason to travel there, (unless ur Chinese and love to gamble)
18 malls in PP wont draw in tourists
Backpackers used to go for Shianokville and the islands, which are getting expensive.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Pretty much this, I would love to check ko rong again, but fuck spending anytime in sook... what is unfortunately hard to skip... and pp never did anything for me, I rather spend time in any other major city in the regionphuketrichard wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 5:30 pm The problem with Cambodia is, take away Angkor Wat, (and a few other temples) and there is no reason to travel there, (unless ur Chinese and love to gamble)

Re: Bringing Cambodia back on tourism bucket lists
If Cambodia decided to get serious about managing it's national parks well, there is enormous scope to attract big numbers of all forms of nature tourists here.
Including mass tourism if it was done properly.
It could be a win win win situation.
It would require a lot of planning and a commitment by the government to best practice.
Ho ho ho, you say.
But HE has demonstrated commitment in advancing various business/industry sectors in the past.
And also demonstrated reasonably capable stewardship of important parts of Cambodia's cultural and natural heritage.
eg, Cambodia has embraced high level, high commitment, actions in response to advice by UNESCO on managing Angkor Wat and the Tonle Sap. (generally, given the context)
Both of these places are populated or visited by millions of people.
Perhaps this is a way for Europe to get back into the business of offering genuinely useful assistance once again.
Stuff like what UNESCO does, which has always been warmly welcomed and highly respected by cambodia's leadership.
A measly billion over 10 years for planning, training and infrastructure would do the job. Thoroughly, for huge benefits.
As it stands, foreign donors spend much more on bullshit projects that only alienates the Gov.
'Dreaming ???
