When they pick it back oct i hope it gets dinked... Law is the law and every culture is different but id just hate the collateral damage.

How exactly is this law going to be enforced? Malaysia has a large foreigner retirement community due to low cost of living, high level of medical services, etc. Is the Sharia police going to demand to see wedding papers of foreigners who’ve been married for the last couple of decades on suspicion that they might not be married? Demand to see matching passports? Psychic ESP?

Can they read Japanese or other languages?

Could they even understand that Cambodia has no marriage certificate, only a letter of permission to marry? (And some writings in a book at the local Sangkat office.)

As for me, I do not carry around the permission to marry certificate whether I’m traveling or not.

JAKARTA (REUTERS) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo's decision to delay a planned vote in parliament on a new penal code that would criminalise sex outside marriage and gay sex was met by relief from some but sparked criticism from conservative Muslims who back the new Bill.

The president said earlier on Friday (Sept 20) that 14 articles needed further review by parliament and ordered the vote delayed.

Critics warn the Bill violates free speech rights and discriminates against religious minorities, women and LGBT people.

The Bill also includes penalties for insulting the president's dignity and a four-year jail term for abortions in the absence of a medical emergency or rape.

However, the Bill still has significant support in the world's biggest Muslim-majority country, which has seen a growth in conservative interpretations of Islam.

"Indonesia is not a liberal country," Nasir Djamil, a politician for the Prosperous Justice Party, an Islamic opposition party, said by telephone.

He accused the president of coming under the influence of foreign governments, noting Australia's travel advice warning its citizens of risks they could face from sex outside marriage or same-sex relations in Indonesia if the rules take effect.

Australians are a significant tourist market for Indonesia.

Indonesia protests over sex before marriage bill

Police have fired tear gas and water cannons at protesters demonstrating outside the Indonesian parliament over a proposed new criminal code that would ban sex before marriage.

Protests against the bill also took place in other cities in the country.

The bill would outlaw most abortions and make insulting the president illegal.

The bill has been delayed, but protesters are concerned it could still eventually pass through parliament.
What's in the controversial bill?

The proposed new criminal code includes the following:

Sex before marriage would be criminalised and could result in a one-year prison term
Living together outside marriage could lead to a six-month prison sentence
Insulting the president, vice president, religion, state institutions and symbols such as the flag and national anthem would be illegal
Abortion would carry a maximum four-year prison term if there were no circumstances of a medical emergency or rape

The bill was initially scheduled for a vote on Tuesday - however, President Joko Widodo postponed the vote on Friday, stating that that new laws needed more consideration.
